As my Protege5 is on my jack stands in my garage pissing me off. Found myself in need of a car so bought a 2010 Speed3 because the Focus ST was a little rich for me right now. No regrets.

Drive to work is much more entertaining with some horsepower and nice interior.

Hope to drive the Fiesta ST at some point....always knew it wouldn't work for me just because of size. Test drove a Focus ST, real nice and love the looks. Came down to money for me but love the 3 now I'm in it. Really love the simple radio operation too of all things Lol Coming from my slow P5, the power is intoxicating.

The size isn't really an issue for me, but it sounds like my budget is on par with yours. The power must be intoxicating. I'm afraid once I drive it I'll want more of it.

When it was time for my wife's P5 to go I voted Speed3. She liked the GTI better and since it's hers, she won. You made the right choice.

Lol I got a thing for the hatches so the GTI was always there as a known option but I've never been a VW guy.

Yeah, I kind of wanted her to get it and keep it in the family since at that point I had a Mazda6 5mt wagon and we had a NA Miata (still have it). We would have had 4 Mazdas for a bit until we sold the P5. Her opinion on having 4 Mazdas simultaneously: "That's stupid"

Sounds like we think alike. I still want some RWD flavor, so on the cheap is obv. going to end up = miata at some point. Worse case I'm going to buy one super cheap as a project.
