I think many of these odd eliminations are due to people mistaking "ultimate beater" for "most desirable". Age demographics and actually having no idea what makes a great beater also play into it.

They're both good in their own way. I'd rather have the Impreza because I can hoon the Impreza more than the Jeep. I had a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited with a V8 in it for a number of years. I'd rather have the Impreza unless I needed to haul something.
