If you have strong feelings about the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of Texas World Speedway, please consider going to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at 7 p.m. tonight. in the Council Chambers of the College Station City Hall.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

There's an opportunity for the public to speak their piece on the MUD proposal, so I would encourage anyone who's close enough to go to show up. Be polite (avoid comments about cacti in bodily orifices, for example). Be well-reasoned in whatever you have to say. And most of all, show up and say it.

Unfortunately, I live just a bit too far away, but in case anyone is close enough to go, please do!

I know the petition that was linked in the article has already been shipped to to the council, but it would be a much stronger message if members of the statewide track community showed up in person .

i'll try Stef. I'm in Houston right by 290. I get off at 7pm but could maybe get off a little bit early. I doubt if i'll make it on time perhaps. If I do go, I wouldn't know what to say :( Maybe just joining in the rabble rabble? This place shouldn't be taken away, there is plenty of land in the area to build.

Rabble rabble! Pretty much that. I think it's silly for the town to be developing along one stretch of freeway, anyway. I, for one, don't like living that close to noisy roads (exception: I'd totally live next to a racetrack, but I'm a big, big exception there—and thus, developing even next to it is an awful idea). They could put houses closer in to the city center/college/other attractions in town and guide development away from the track—not on top of it. It's CS, anyway—there's a ton of land around that place that isn't currently a frequently-booked racetrack. Put the houses elsewhere and everybody wins.

I know, there so much more area to work with and their goofy distance from CS isn't going to force the expansion. Did not know however that it is frequently booked. Maybe there is something "tax or lobby" information we don't know. Any chance the any reps from Texas Motor Speedway or COTA going to be there?

Can't make it tonight, unfortunately.

Ha, probably not. I don't think they're exact even competitors for dates. Eagles Canyon and MSR-H are closer competitors, but yeah. Nobody's really backstabby like that—the loss of one facility hurts everybody.

I don't know why that facility isn't grand fathered into the state, it is just wrong :'(

Sounds like quite a few people showed up—discussion lasted over an hour, three of the five speakers were against the MUD and the city council still passed it unanimously. *facepalm* http://www.theeagle.com/news/local/art…

"Quality housing" doesn't have Triumph guts strewn all over the yard. Insert aggy joke here.

Oh noooo :'(
I'm sorry I couldn't make it Stef. I got out late from work and it was raining (which equals mass confusion on Houston roads). I had a full tank in my battle wagon ready also hehe :] I was talking to a couple people at work that have raced there many times, they say it's a shame. Dang it, now what is going to happen? I have a beater e36 i'm just waiting for my wife to move the Texas with me to start building up... or down... with her to something like you compete in. Losing TWS just hurts my heart. I'm such a Texas history buff and car guy. I have two ouwiies :'(

Same here. Now it goes to some environmental and other boards for the approval. The schedule remains as-is for the rest of the year, then who knows? College Station gets a sea of crappy beige in place of a once-great racetrack. Sad.

Maybe the environmental boards will find something harrbl and prohibitively expensive in there. I can't say it's a well-groomed piece of land.

Too much oil in the soil can prevent development... but I doubt if it's something they cannot dig out. All those poor rattlesnakes in the tire walls will loose their home :( But for real Stef, this is really crappy. I don't have to tell you the significance of this place. I'd pay money to go a get of piece of the track. I'm not scared to tell you when I read your reply late last light that I may have shed a tear. They better put a dagum historical marker somewhere in the area to remind the dang foreigners (non Texans) that will eventually move into these cheapo homes. Chingado guey :'(
