Since it hit the news I've considered why there hasn't been more chatter. Could it be lateral rigidity?

New ones are wide enough, they would have plenty of rigidity I think.

The issue might be cost?

Who knows.

Cost prohibitive, perhaps?

Two things: Cost and availability of Replacements.

They're probably developing many different variants of replacement rubber, before they release the actual product.

I know there are quite a few companies trying to make these things , with Bridgestone and Michelin leading the way. So far, they can only be found on construction equipment in production form.

I'd be more concerned with possible shearing, depending on the forces at play.

Yep, that's what I meant bat lateral rigidity. The spokes might tear.
