Kinja'd!!!

Sufficed to say, my jimmies are rustled. Not only did this dingus do this to an M3, but he did it to one with a rust free body. There was a visible 3 millimeter gap between the tires and the wheel lips and the backs were touching the fenders. Excuse me while I go vomit.

yeah, its all down to personal taste at the end of the day. it's just that this one in particular seems to be basically impossible to drive, and at the very least made it totally impractical for any type of use in town with dips/speed bumps

No he isn't! Its a useless, unsafe cruiser in this state. You can't enjoy it as the M3 should be enjoyed. Pure eye candy, no enjoyment. Its the equivalent of dating a pin-up poster after the actual girl asked you to dinner.

If I win the lottery the M3 rescue will be a thing.

We rescue M3's from people and rehab them back to shape and find them good homes where people will love them and treat them right.

The stretch is excessive, yes, however, ive seen much more stretch.. And i mean its his money going to fix those wheels when he curbs them soo... How is this car any more dangerous than a teen texting away, or a drunk moron. Most guys i know who drive these cars care about driving, and are just as cautious as us when it comes to protecting the car and others.

Let's say the tires blow out from the forces that they were not designed to handle? That's pretty fucking dangerous.

Judging from that shoddy workmanship I'd also venture to guess that he also did not reinforce the suspension mounts to deal with the new side loads that they were also not designed to handle.

Do you need me to write a detailed report on why stancing is unsafe, complete with force diagrams?

Lol, who are you to tell someone how they can enjoy something!

But i respect your opinion. And i think we can agree we both agree to disagree.

And like i told Arch, drunk moron drivers and texting baboons scare me more than these guys. As they are more likely to kill me than a faulty stanced car.

Thats where state inspection plays its role. But sadly some our our lovely states dont care about our safety. So i urge you to vote accordingly in order to protect our roads.

Yes, im worried about people exceeding the limitations, but i still stand by my argument im more likely to be killed by a drunk or texter than the far and few between stanced ghetto rigs.

Need i remind you we travel in metal boxes at highly disastrous speeds. Driving is inherently unsafe.

I suppose i fight a losing argument here. So no need to get worked up. I get a little rustled with all the hate against our fellow car enthusiasts. Because like it or not, we all enjoy our cars in many different ways.

But is it really a risk worth taking to do this?

I don't hate modified cars. I hate unsafely modified cars, donks, brotrucks, stancers, gasser clones that drive on the street and not on the track, ect... Cincinnati has no inspections nor will we ever.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/25/2014 at 21:58

Kinja'd!!!0

Life is too short to worry about all this. There are still lots of untouched m3's out there, you just gotta look. Same goes for NSX's. And its not like we will ever own half of all of these cars.

The risk is in the eye of the beholder, kind of like beauty. In a weird twisted way. Please do link me to news stories, but ive never once heard of the stancing menace killing thousands of motorists and pedestrians every year. If anything its unsafe for just the driver and more-so the machine.

Its unsafe. to a degree: YES. i agree. But its not my place to tell people what they can and cant do.

You see, i like that nsx setup. I think its rather sexy.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > Arch Duke Maxyenko, Shit Talk Extraordinaire
03/25/2014 at 22:01

Kinja'd!!!0

And id agree, unsafely modified cars are a no no. But how do you know it wasnt properly modified? Ive learned rather quickly in life the hard way to not jump to conclusions and assume. In my cases they ended quite horribly.

NJ doesnt have safety either, and im more concerned about the rust epidemic if im honest. And people actually having enough meat on the pads to stop.

Anyways. Good discussion. Im out for the night! Evenin'

I think you are a sick bastard for liking that NSX. (joking)

It isn't that I don't get it. Aesthetically, it can look good. Can. Insane camber is, ug... but there are always exceptions.

I also like weird cars and weird designs.

Kinja'd!!!

I just hate losing a real classic or a modern classic to something that can't be driven. They were meant to be driven. But now we have alignment issues, dangerous camber and speed bumps are a route changing event.

Can we agree to disagree, done. But I still like to talk about it.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/26/2014 at 20:56

Kinja'd!!!0

muwhahaha, if i ever get an nsx, ill stance it just for you! Ill put a little sticker saying "for Athom" on the back in cursive writing. And ill let you drive it to show you stancing a car doesnt make it any less fun!

Stancing is almost usually reversible. Especially when done to high end cars. Most companies put out direct bolt on swap parts in order to make stancing possible and easy without custom fab.

Dont throw the speedhump excuse out here. Everyone who lowers a car accepts that risk haha. We (im sure i will someday) jokingly complain about the inconvenience because we secretly like it.

If i werent trying to get a beater truck for next winter at the moment, i would put my money where my mouth is, and buy a car to stance. Then id do a series of tests to prove that even after stancing the car is still safe. Yes, i would stance a car (not my daily) because balls man! Its silly fun! cut, dry, the end. Its fun.

im glad we can argue in a gentlemanly fashion. Much respect.

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/26/2014 at 21:30

Kinja'd!!!0

LOL, for the fun of being a grammar Nazi: "Almost usually reversible...".

But how about this deal, you stance that NSX and we will track it. If the brakes melt, a spring breaks or a wheel takes a fender off, I win. (or any other stancing thing breaks the wheels/ wells, shocks etc.)

If I win, stancing is internationally only allowed on cars like Camrys, Fox Body Mustangs, and Volkswagens, especially the New Beetle .

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/26/2014 at 22:08

Kinja'd!!!0

Bro, dont tell me how not to grammer! haha, i meant for that sentence to sound funny, as i was trying to imply that sometimes people do make it irreversible... anywho!

I dont know about that deal... Seems kind of one sided. Whats in it for me if i win?

How about this. When i get my truck, you have a choice. Do i stance it, or bro lift it? Then ill do my challenges accordingly.

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/26/2014 at 22:11

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha, I would Bro lift it, even if that means my Si would less of an obstacle for your Bro truck than the average speed bump would be for that stanced NSX.

Also, you said speed "hump" earlier. From what I recall that's what you do before her parents get home from the store...?

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/26/2014 at 22:17

Kinja'd!!!0

hahahah speedhump.... good catch! Ive been watching too much chris harris and other british motorist youtube channels.

Dont worry tho. I have a prelude and know how annoying the bro lifts are. I will adjust my headlights accordingly. Id never use an Si as a speed bump! EX's most definitely. If i get a diesel, we can both roll coal from the stop lights (poking fun at hondas burning oil, i burn gallons)

Another plus to bro trucks is that they are a bigger target for everything. People always gravitate to the largest object around. And they provide protection for your Si when i park next to you if some idiot were to run into the cars.

I give proper respect to the Si's since theyre the only ones who give me a run for my money. What generation Si do you have?

My coworker has that generation ex... It took me ages to explain to her that it has a timing chain, and why it makes noises related to a timing chain and the valves... And that she should not listen to the dealer offering her a tbelt service package.

I have the 8th gen Si. My 7th Honda! LOL.

In order:

85 CRX

89 Accord Lxi

90 Integra RS

97 Civic Ex

08 Honda Fit

07 Civic Ex

07 Civic Si

Kinja'd!!!

I really need to take more pics...

And all manual, of course.

Almost bought a couple Preludes. I particularly like the 4th gen, and came within inches of a VTEC H22A about 10 years ago... But it gushed oil and I bought the Integra instead.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/26/2014 at 22:56

Kinja'd!!!0

Shoulda kept that crx! And good call on the 8th gen. I prefer those over the 9th. But the 2014 models are pretty slick in a different way tho. You gotta get the mugen RR wing. They look fantastic with them.

Kinja'd!!!

Buy a prelude! Its a world of a difference. 4th gens are awesome if you can get over the interior which was inspired by spaceships... haha. They have nearly a 50 50 weight balance, and are very low and quite light. Coupled with 4ws, they still give 5th gens a run for their money.

After owning a prelude i dont think id want to ever go to an integra. Or any other honda for that matter (exception being s2000 and nsx of course)

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand

Kinja'd!!!0

I loved that Integra. And If I find another, gently used one for cheap I might buy it. Same for the Prelude, and I really liked the spaceship with white design.

Next car I think is going to be one of the following:
BRZ

Camaro SS

Genesis 3.8R

Time to return to RW. Short term though, going to do the full exhaust on the Si. HF Cat, headers, 3" exhaust. Just need to find a muffler that isn't loud. Then later a full intake w/ Supercharger. Probably keep the Si as a second car for when the new car is in pieces in the garage... and give to the oldest kid in about 7 years. Lucky bastard ;)

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/26/2014 at 23:22

Kinja'd!!!0

Just make sure to get actual performance headers, and not a header that is "insert brand name" quality copies of the OEM style header. Its my pet peeve when everyone gets "DC" headers claiming gains when its just a oem copy.... /end rant

Good call on the 3", since you should get some nice gains on that size exhaust.

Im never gonna get rid of my prelude pending any economic downturns. Its something like you, i want my future kid to have to enjoy. Because by then, lets face it, ill have a much more powerful car with rwd... But i still want to be able to enjoy it from time to time.

speaking of rwd. I think my plan might just be to hold out with the prelude until the r32's have landed and i can begin to hunt one of them down. I would buy a BRZ, but for much less i could have an r32 imported. So im back to that. All depends on how the market reacts when they hit shores...

Id look into the new mustang over the camaro. IMO, the new mustang has overtaken the camaro in the looks department.

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/27/2014 at 06:42

Kinja'd!!!0

Which new Mustang, the 2015? It is on the short list, as I think Ford finally got a few things right. But so far the Ford with the best steering feel has been the Fusion! So, if they fix that, it feels smaller / lighter than the current (as in, it can turn) it will be in the running.

The real problem with headers though, is I sort of want a good 4-2-1 set for the wider gains... But if I SC, then it really doesn't matter, and the bigger gains from a 4-1. And I buy off posted third party dyno sheets. So as long as it independently shows good gains where I want them, I get it. That said, it usually means a big brand.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/27/2014 at 12:01

Kinja'd!!!0

yeah, the 2015 mustang. It sure seems to have some legitimate potential!

I guess thats the dilema you have to sort out. Also, does your Si block need to be built up for boost, or can they handle it stock. I know the prelude H22 series engines are not built for boost and if you want a reliable motor, its pretty much standard to build a motor first, then add boost.

A SC is something i will definitely look into if i build a motor later on. Simply because of the noise:

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/27/2014 at 12:42

Kinja'd!!!0

6-7 PSI is more than safe on stock internals, and still good for roughly 50HP with some of the bolt on kits.

If I wanted to go any further and build the engine, the transmission would be first. Taller gears. 2nd gear is only good to about 55MPH, compared to 62 in the EX.

And that is a fun Prelude you posted. Any idea the boost he is pushing, sounds like a lot more than what I am planning right now ;).

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/27/2014 at 13:59

Kinja'd!!!0

6-7 seems rather restrictive. If your like me, i know i would soon up it to 8, then maybe 9, and then id say, wth, might as well do 10. At which point you get to 30 and then then you wonder where it all went wrong.

Have you looked into type R gearbox? From the JDM cars? or are they running the same ratios.

He says its at 11psi, so pretty decent. However, realistically im probably going to stay NA. Maybe upgrade the IM to a Euro R, but thats it.

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/27/2014 at 14:50

Kinja'd!!!0

6-7 is safe, and I have to be honest at some point going down that road is pretty expensive and time consuming. When it isn't a DD, maybe. But then I would likely be just as likely to tear out the interior, HVAC, spare etc..

And no, I will have to look into the JDM gears if I ever go that route.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > AthomSfere
03/27/2014 at 18:56

Kinja'd!!!0

Yep, the fine line between a daily-able car vs a fun car.

Check out what gearbox options you have, and thanks to the internet, its easier than ever to source stuff from japan, Australia, and Europe. Because all those countries got the better optioned civics (and every other honda ever made).

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > MountainCommand
03/27/2014 at 19:34

Kinja'd!!!0

Yea, those bastards! That is a good idea though, and probably just as cheap or cheaper than some of the gear kits out there.

And this is why the internet sucks. You go from thinking "50 more HP would be nice" to "I should really just go for 500hp, its possible and cheap enough".

I am tempted to see what comes from the K24 in the near future too.
