"2005 Cobalt SS"
If that's the case, then explain the LS bumpers and lack of SS badging. And where's the big wing that Chevy plopped on the decklid?
A real SS for comparison.
And he says its a turbo, weren't 05s supercharged?

I thought the first ones were neither super/turbocharged, and 06 was turbocharged. And I believe the giant wing was optional.

05s were SC, that could be an N/A SS though
Not all had wings though as well, some had a low rise, or were wingless.
The rims on the top one are SC or SS NA rims, or the sport rims if they're 17s

In 05, the SS was supercharged but in 06 a N/A 1SS was offered. Not sure about the wing

The add says prior salvage title, so who knows what happened to this thing. Damaged bumper and trunk lid could have been replaced with other parts.
I like the way the two tone paint has been done.

I'll give him props on the two tone. That's about it.

Wasn't there a SS appearance package? Still not clear what's up with this one. I'd go and be like "I'd love to buy this SS for $xx,xxx buuuut this is an LS and I'm willing to offer $x,xxx"
Also, he says 5 speed but weren't SS' 6 speed?

The SS was a 5 speed. But so were the standard car. I'm calling it an LS until I see something official that says its an SS.

A lot of cars that come stock with something like that also have good DIY guides for "Spoiler delete". Worth mentioning at least.

Ask for the VIN, it'll tell you exactly what it is.

Just tell him you need the first half to check insurance prices and come back saying "it comes back as a Cobalt LS/LT... What's the story?"
I bet he wrecked it and swapped in a turbo engine. That'll do the already subpar suspension of the base model a lot of good...

That wouldn't be a question for me, I've never driven one. But from what I've read on them, they were one of the best FWD performance cars.

Thats my impression as well. They had a really good ring time. And responded to mods very well. They must handle well too, but I wonder if they are reliable and fun to drive.

The two-tone seats and door panels were only on the SSs, and that shift knob is from an SS. It would take a lot of work to put those touches on a non-SS car, especially if they didn't go through and get the Recaros.
Most of the interior trim should match the climate control panel's silver color. The paint on the door panels did peal/chip real early on, so maybe that's why it was blacked out.
The rocker panel extensions on it were only on the SS/SC cars in 2005. The SS/NA didn't come out until 2006, and even then it had the SS bumpers.
You can just barely tell that the gauges are the SS/SC gauges.
My money is on the cheaper bumpers, on an actual SS car following the accident that lead to the salvage title.

There was an "SS" appearance package available with an NA motor, but that started in 2006.

Ah, that's what I was thinking of. Why, in the world , would chevy think that's a good idea? Was the SS badge not shit on enough in the 90s/00s?
