Yesterday, I compared and contrasted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Today, I decided to compare recent versions of the Hot Wheels and Maisto models of the Lamborghini Countach.

If you grew up in the 1980s you probably had this on your wall:

If you grew up in the 1980s and were slightly older, maybe you even had something as racy as this:

Kinja'd!!!

Both of these diecast models were bought this year, but are likely 2013 models:

The red one with the spoiler is from Maisto, while the blue is Hot Wheels. The Maisto is actually slightly larger than the Hot Wheels, but I could not locate any information as to its scale.

The Hot Wheels feature the standard rims in gold, while the Maisto's are slightly more era appropriate.

Advantage: Maisto

Kinja'd!!!

Here you can see that the Maisto has a crude Lamborghini emblem on the hood, while the Hot Wheels features just a slight bump in the paint. However, the Hot Wheels spells out "Lamborghini" as well as the "Hot Wheels" logo down the side, compared to no decoration for the Maisto.

Advantage: Draw

From behind, the detailing on both is minimal. The taillights are raised more on the Maisto. Note that the rear fenders stick out so much on the Maisto that the wheels are partially hidden. The spoiler improves the Maisto's rearview.

Advantage: Maisto

Kinja'd!!!

For extra comparison, this is the Countach from my childhood (circa 1987). Body-colored spoiler is a nice touch, I think.

Front view (All three have the single front wiper blade)

Rear view (You can see how much wider the Maisto is)

The modern Hot Wheels does shine in one area: it actually has an interior. The Maisto simply has blacked out windows.

Advantage: Hot Wheels

Kinja'd!!!

As to cost, I bought the Maisto at the local dollar store. The Hot Wheels came in a 5 pack for $5. So basically, they each cost $1.

Advantage: Draw

Kinja'd!!!

Winner: Maisto

So the Maisto takes it 2-1-2 but neither really have a decisive edge. In any case, I'll always prefer my playworn Countach..

1980s style!

What about you? Which do you prefer: Hot Wheels or Maisto? What makes one better than the other?

Hot Wheels, I always feel like I get more out of them than Maistos. The wheels are more flush with the body and look more stylish, you get an interior on 99% of them, they come in a variety of colors, and they have tracks they'll fit on.

I don't want to sound rude but the maisto looks like crap compared to the hotwheels. the proportions of the maisto look a bit off.
