Simple question, but an important one. These are the people that helped us dream of driving cars before visual reviews. The ones who brought life to cars we never even saw. Now that we have Youtube, we get to learn even more about the cars and our automotive liaisons. So, who do you fancy?

Here's my favorites, in no particular order

Harry Metcalfe from EVO

Kinja'd!!!

Chris Harris from EVO and /Drive

Kinja'd!!!

John Davis, my home state hero, from Motorweek

Kinja'd!!!

JC from Top Geeeeaaaarrrrhh

Kinja'd!!!

Freiburger & Finnegan from Hot Rod

Kinja'd!!!

Edit: and Jay Leno

The amount of sarcasm he puts into his work makes me idolize him.

C. Van Tune deserves a mention (editor of Motor Trend from I think 1994-2001 or so)

Of course, the ones you mention are good too.

At the behest of many on Oppo, I have really gotten into Roadkill, and as such must heartily agree with you choice of Finn and Frei.

They clearly do not take themselves seriously, and are just having fun with cars.

#1. Freiburger and Finnegan (not the most neutral out there, but I love the stuff they do)

#2. James May (simply because he's the one I can relate to the most)

#3. Tiff Needel and Vicky B. H (Funny and somewhat neutral)

#4. Richard Hammond (Hey, we all love the hamster right?)

#5. Jay Leno (He loves cars, but tends to be a bit much sometimes)

I guess Raph and Travis should be up there somewhere, but I see them as "friends" so I can't give them a number, let's just say I like what they do.

Very true, in the last episode you would think Hot Rod guys would outshine the event and rule the AutoX. They were just having a good time and making a mess of the place.

This is who I came here to post. I met him at a vintage race weekend at Elkart Lake a few years back...actually met him wandering a car show. Great guy. I've literally read all of his R&T columns (bought them in book form). Very well-rounded too, when you consider how long he wrote for Cycle World.

Hmmm Chris Harris is great. As are the Roadkill guys, and I'm a fan of Orlove and Torchinsky's style. The Top Gear Trio are good fun too, especially when you read their columns and realise that they're all great writers too. I like the chap from XCar as well, and lastly LJK Setright is a legend :)

Clarkson is the best... always the best. I would even go so far to say that he is the best host on television.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are more entertainers than journalists. That said, here are favorite journalists:

-Tiff Needell

-Jason Plato

-Chris Harris

-Carlos Lago

-Henry Catchpole

-Harry Metcalfe

-John Davis

Clarkson's great, especially when you see him off Top Gear, like in Love The Beast. I sometimes wish he actually acted more mature on TG. It makes him look stupid to others who don't know him.

I have always admired Sam Posey's comments before F-1 races. I'm not sure if he wrote them, or if it was the network, but whoever it was, they could write.

I don't even care if people don't think he's a journalist. He presents some of the coolest stuff in the world, and that mustache is on a godly level. It was always awesome to see him when I was younger. It's especially nice when he visits Jay's garage.

Love Finnegan & Freiburger from Roadkill. Hands down my favorite crew to watch. Never gone through an episode of Roadkill without laughing hysterically, knowing exactly what's going through their mind during a snag, or daydreaming of doing the exact same type of hack modifications to my own cars.

I actually really enjoy watching Mike Musto from /Drive's Big Muscle. Guy has a great presentation style and really knows his stuff about American classics, not just muscle cars in general. He's very down to earth and genuinely seems to enjoy his job.

Might be going out on a limb here, but I love Matt Farah's antics. He's like 17 year old asshole kid in all of us that loves to thrash on cars and speak his mind, whether or not that's always a good thing. He drives the piss out of everything he records, knows the aftermarket scene from a slightly-premium perspective very well (something I don't pretend to know much about outside of muscle cars), and he has a bitchin' C5 corvette. Also, I love his sarcasm and involvement on this site from time to time.

Hijacking this a bit, but is there anyone else out there that can't stand Jonny Lieberman from Motor Trend? Every time that guy comes out with a video I can't help but look for a fast forward button. Maybe it's his voice, presenting style, some type of dimwittedness, or some other peculiar trait, but he always seems like a drag.

I do enjoy Mike and Matt. They aren't at the same level as the others I posted, but that can definitely make them more down to earth. You wouldn't see Jeremy Clarkson in a rat rod, would you? That would be cool. And yes, please don't mention Jonny. He is too boring to have a beard like that. I stopped being a MT reader when they became really liberal a few years ago. It seemed like nothing even mattered, VW will always make the best cars. I just don't like their style. Carlos is cool though.
