iPhone 5 with Chrome. Doesn't work in Safari, either. Most of my posting comes from this device while I'm at work or school, which is why it's been sparse lately. Someone pease fix this...

KINJA HELP: I am in the same boat, but on a different OS..
LG G2 on KitKat. No lead images load with Chrome or stock browser.
Please fix.
Tiger is otherwise decent from a PC on FireFox 27.0.1

Seconded. Pictures don't work on my phone (stock Android stock browser) either. Unless when they're embedded in a tweet.

AFAIK this was a decision they made, not a bug. Images can appear if they have been recommended, though. They'll also show up full-sized on the desktop page if they have.

Basically, there are no images on Kinja mobile any more. In an effort to "improve performance" they have removed all images from Gawker mobile sites, except those that have been promoted by the article author or the mods. So, any image that appears large on the Oppo desktop version will appear on mobile. If it's just a thumbnail on Oppo desktop, it won't appear on mobile.

Ah, the noted decision making prowess of Gawker Media...

I want to call that decision absolutely idiotic, but I feel like that doesn't quite have enough weight

On top of that I can't post pix from Firefox or Chrome on my Android. I have to use the default browser, which I hate.

It has resulted in me rarely using the mobile version any more. I bet it has caused others to use the mobile version less as well. I have to agree this is a way to improve performance, but I doubt it's the result they're after.
My suggestion: add a button to the top of the page. A pictures on/off button, so you as a user can choose between performance and content.

See that makes sense to me. You should suggest it to Ernie

I have a feeling this is the excuse they used, too. But the old platform wasn't some insane mobile resource hog. Videos, pictures all loaded just fine on a 2-year-old Android device.
And each year the hardware improves dramatically. They should be pushing MORE content, not less.

Well, to be fair, to me it wasn't about devices not being able to handle the site. It was about the amount of data, especially to those with a limited data plan. If I'm at home with wifi I'd like all the pictures and especially gifs (phone introduced in 2011, works fine). When I'm not connected to wifi I like having a leaner page.

Ah, true. I am on wifi most of the time so I don't really think about it that much. I have the lowest data plan available and I still never use more than 1/3 of 2GB.

Yep.

Well there you go, I believe I've got 1 GB or so. Maybe 500 MB, I'm not sure. Not that I pay more than spare change, but that's not the point.

It's not a bug, they made it that way.
Its really dumb. I don't click on anything anymore.

agreed. No more clicks from me for the 12 hours I'm away from the computer. Less clicks means less posting and less advertising revenue for Gawker.

I find if I load the page with the phone in landscape they appear, but not in portrait. Then again, I'm using the native browser on an older Samsung so this might not apply to you.

:(

Sadly, it does not apply to me.

I can post pics just fine, but links give me some trouble.
They put the box way over to the left.

It happens in Chrome on my kindle too. You can't just flip the phone, you have to put it in horizontal and then reload the page. Have you tried ticking the "request desktop site" box in the settings?
![]() 03/24/2014 at 11:59 |

Yeah, I did that all the time during the previous Kinja's reign.

I found the box to post the pix, but every time I select a picture, nothing happens and I can't click on the box any more.

We just released a feature to display all mobile images however we had to pull it back on a bunch of sites due to some unwanted side effects. It will be back soon!
