It literally makes me bristle whenever I hear someone pronounce "Jaguar," as "jag-WIRE"

It's almost as bad as calling that French car a "Peg-GOTT"
Anyway, have a Peugeot with a Jaguar chaser:

As an American and a Jaguar owner, I am of the opinion that we should only ever refer to them out loud as 'Jag(s).' Jag-wahr sounds hickish, Jag-u-ehr sounds affected, and Jag-wire is a class A misdemeanor outside of a 50 mile radius around Jacksonville, FL.

I agree. Although to be fair, I've never heard an English speaker pronounce Peugeot exactly right. The Brits are really close, but not quite there yet.

I took six years of French so my pronunciation of Peugeot is as close to French as I can get it: "pyuh-zheoh" with the accent on the first part of the second syllable and then dropping off at the end of the word.

How about the British "JAg you ah"?

That's fine by me... although I prefer Clarkson's "JAAAAAAAAAAAG"
