Its car culture, its fun, get over yourself and appreciate it.
Stance isn't the first thing to come around and do something that doesn't really make sense, and it certainly won't be the last.
Being a Detroit resident I've seen my fair share of ghetto cars, but when I see a nicely done Donk I can still appreciate the work. Why hate if its quality and you know the owner loves it?
Ehh I guess whatever, this is the internet and no one is changing their mind.
Actually fuck that, cars are toys meant to be enjoyed and I'll support that in any form. Keep hatin' hater.

1. Gassers were jacked up in the name of speed as it gave them better weight transfer of the line.
2. NEVER call a Gasser a donk.
3. I've said it countless times, stancers are just white boy low riders and the trend will die out and reappear in about 30 years.
4. I have yet to see a stanced car on hydraulics.

I don't like the attitude of some "Stance" guys.....
I'm not sure how to explain what I mean, but just this "I'm better than you because my oil pan is destoroyed by pebbles and that makes me fucking awesome"
I appreciate the work in the cars, but not the people that own most of them, not al lof them.

Its cool to hate on things just for the sake of hating.
Its even cooler to hate on things done to cars that are somehow "wrong".
I actually love seeing the butthurt when people say "OMFG WHY DID U STANCE THAT WHY THATS SUCH A GOOD CAR AND ITS RARE AND ITS AWESOME"
Shut up and go buy a car like that. Otherwise, stop with your false rage that someone likes something that you don't.
I sure as shit don't understand the love of curling, that doesn't mean I go out of my way to keep saying "ERMAGHERD CURLING SUXXORS STOP WAISTING TV TIME LET MEH WATCH MY REAL SPORTS"
And a well done stanced car, meaning on that has several thousands in air systems and custom work, is actually a wonderful thing to behold. And dollars to donuts it has a better ride and maybe even better suspension characteristics for what you'd want out of a car like that.
I sure as hell want airbags in my car. The comfort is amazing.

1. I've heard that more times than I can count and it still seems like flawed logic.
2. I didn't
3. Except for all the asians, but yea.
4.
But I'm slightly confused how thats relevant because bags just seem better.

The same could be said for bro truck & muscle car guys. Aka there are a lot of douchebags in the car world.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 00:32 |

My experience has always been with the stance guys calling me "gay" or whatever cause I refuse to lower my car.
Bro trucks around here aren't assholes, and the muscle car guys actually enjoy my car, and don't hate on it at all.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 00:34 |

Agreed on all counts, esp. that curling point. So fucking valid.

Well color me shocked … maybe its because I used to hangout on Woodward with a JDM car in the jdm crowd. The Mustang / Camaro guys would always talk shit. Never directly to me or my car, but with everyone walking around you defintly heard it enough.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 00:49 |

I'm with you on this one. I respect and appreciate all thing automotive be it a lowrider, brotruck, stanced, donk, ect even if it's not my thing I will never disrespect someone because it is their thing. I enjoy seeing the diversity at car shows. If a car show was all muscle cars all the time that would get boring pretty quick.
"If I lose the winner takes my car clean and clear but if I win I take the cash and I take the respect. To some people that's more important."
![]() 03/23/2014 at 00:50 |

Mines not JDM though haha
Made in #Murica
But I get what you are saying, the FWD hate thing, but when your FWD car can either walk them or keep up with no issue, they suddenly respect it.

I don't understand the fascination with lowering a car to the point where it destroys its self. I wouldn't really hate them if they served a purpose other than hard parking, and to that point I have to say I have a little more respect for the hard parker who drives his car rather than the rich old dude with a trailer queen he refuses to drive. I get that people like different things and that has a direct correlation to what purpose their car serves, but I can't get behind having a car that is not able to be driven up a drive way or will smash its oil pan going over a cats eye lane divider. Smashed oil pans are not cool nor are they good for the environment.
Really it comes down to the workmanship done to the car. If it is micky moused together I will talk shit on it all day long, but if there is good craftsmanship done I can respect the car even if I don't really agree with the said purpose of the build. Really what it comes down to is how a car is built and put together is what is the artwork, not just the end result. If you wanted a slammed WRX and you took the time to notch the frame rails and actually thought about your suspension geometry so the car would actually have some droop travel, that is a whole lot cooler than the dumbass who basically just bought the shittiest coil-overs and set it to the minimum ride height only to get stuck on everything. . .
But then again I do love me some damn minitrucks. . . I cannot explain it and it is hypocritical to like minitrucks, but vehemently hate massive cambered stance cars.

If you say so
![]() 03/23/2014 at 03:01 |

but they are pointless and silly. The lowrider scene is about taking a normal boring American car like a 64 Impala(we don't think of a 64 as a boring car now but back in it;s day it was), or an Olds Cutlass, and make it something and cool, something that attracts attention. Even thought it's pointless and silly.
Just like a kid taking his MK3 Golf, or Honda Accord, or even Ford Fusion and turning it into something special, and cool in his eyes. Even though it's pointless and silly. Now yeah like anything people go to extremes, but they doesn't have to be the mark at which you judge the whole majority.

And that is how I think. . . Hahahaha, I'd love to have me a Ranger with a 5.0 shoved in front and be sitting on a channeled frame on bags so it can drag frame and shoot sparks. . .

Stance kids are the new posers of the car world, thats why. They took over for the rice phase of the 2000's....
Or as Mr.Regular put it on his E36 M3 review
SSSSSSSSSSTTTTAAAANCE NNNNNNAAAAAATTTIOOOOONNNNN!!!!!!!!
Bro my car is so low, I can't even use it!

stance cars are like feminists. they wouldn't exist if they didn't get properly hated.
i like to point out curb rash on cars with stretched tires, and ask why they'd let their gf drive their car.
i think it comes down to how people get butthurt. when i tucked the blinkers on my bike up like nuts, i caught some hate, but didn't care what other people thought about it. (note: chickenstrips)
i hate for hating's sake. and i back my hate up with logical arguments because the only thing that stings a fool deeper than hate, is logic.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 06:02 |

Stance is awesome.
Did you see the butthurt comments on the FP about the stanced Evo?
Lowrider, Hot Rod, Donk, Stance, Lifted pick up trucks, they are all the same.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 12:20 |

Ha, well good luck with that. But I have to say that is a good engine choice for the ranger.

i agree with you wholeheartedly. but all the nerds don't care... they are so quick to point out that it doesn't make sense, it hurts performance, its stupid, blah blah... I enjoy my car and im glad to see others enjoying theirs.

Well it really is an easy swap to be done, all that you need to do is take the 5.0 from a Mountaineer and the PCM and wiring harness, it can end up looking like a factory swap. . .
![]() 03/23/2014 at 14:37 |
|
Ohhhhhhh, I was thinking of a different 5.0.
That does make more sense now.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 14:46 |

A Coyote would probably be a lot more fun. . . But the older 302 would be a cheaper junkyard swap. But there would still be room for a blower. . . I wonder how a Coyote would fit under the hood of a ranger, I do believe they are physically bigger than the old 302s are.

Every time someone hates on a stanced car for being stupid and ruining the useability, I think to this video which perfectly proves that you can both good stance and everyday practicality.
Of course there's always a few that are taken to the extreme that some will point to (looking at you here bosozoku) but people who let the extremes of anything in life dictate how they view the entire subculture are idiots anyway.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 15:13 |

I'm sure its bigger, but you wouldn't FI for the sam HP though …… but there is no ignoring the price difference.

I agree with what you're saying, except for calling out bosozoku! Those guys look like they could not be having more fun.

All of the "stanced" cars that you posted are relatively tastefully done and still relatively safe and functional as a car, I don't have a problem with these. I do however take issue with excessive negative camber and tires stretched so badly that the car is riding on the edge between the sidewall and tread, this is simply not safe to have on the road.
![]() 03/23/2014 at 16:55 |

Some days I really do want to buy one. Just cause everyone but a few people on Oppo hates it. The poor cars could use some loving owners. No Ferrari should go to the junk yard, no matter how slow it is.

![]() 03/24/2014 at 12:11 |

Wow, you sure labeled a lot of different customs as "stanced."
I am 99% certain that if I walked up to the owner of the 64 and said, "Nice stanced Impala." He would grab a spare Dayton and beat me to death with it.
If I repeated the process with the 49, he would run a comb through his Mike Ness hair then pull out his retro blackjack remove my teeth.
"Stanced" cars belong to a pretty specific subculture. Typically imports, typically involving more investment in watts per channel than horsepower and typically not the most thought out customs. Sure there are some great cars being customized with that general design aesthetic, but so many are rocking a bunch of garish pep boys parts with drum brakes on the back and a fart can.
![]() 03/24/2014 at 12:54 |

I think you missed a key sentence in my post - "Stance isn't the first thing to come around and do something that doesn't really make sense, and it certainly won't be the last."
I'm not calling the other types of car modification stance, I'm saying they are all equally dumb.
The fact that you ended with this - "typically involving more investment in watts per channel than horsepower and typically not the most thought out customs." Just means you have blanket hate and clearly haven't seen too many IRL. All the people I know that have stanced cars could give a shit less about their stereo.
![]() 03/24/2014 at 13:45 |

I think you are right that I missed a key sentence, my apologies.
I think you may have missed a key sentence of mine, "Sure, there are some great cars customized with that general design aesthetic."
I'm not a blanket hater. I hate half assed shit when it comes to custom cars. The stance movement likely due to the age and budget of participants is chock full of half assed shit. And please do not try to pretend that guys who stance their cars are unfamiliar with custom audio.
![]() 03/24/2014 at 13:59 |

They're not unfamiliar but the whole sub & bass thing is quite played out now. The only people doing that are 16 year olds who don't know better and wanna be gangsters.
But yes there are shitty stanced cars, thats why I put "Why hate if its quality" up in the post. At the same time though there are shit-illy modded trucks, hot rods, muscle cars, etc.
![]() 03/24/2014 at 15:14 |

Wait, wait, wait...Are you trying to tell me that Jeep is shitty???
Look at how they lifted it so very high while maintaining near stock bumper, hitch and ride height.
That is some seriously focused engineering.
Not to mention it didn't even dent when somebody drove over it with paint on their tires.
I sure hope theirs a hand grenade sticker on their somewhere.

The straps that look like they are holding the front down scare me the most.
