Is this thing too gimmicky?

I need a new music player, but buying another Sony mp4 player, isn't really exciting, as my Xperia phone can do that now, too. This thing however, offers headphones, mp3 player and portable speakers, all in one. It is tempting.

So, should I get them? Are they too heavy? Would I look like a Seattle hipster?

That does sound rather tempting. As a bundle, it sounds like it might be worth it.

I've never been a fan of over-the-ear headphones. After wearing earbuds, why would one go back? They're not THAT much better, unless you're listening to bass heavy music or want noise cancelling.

However, that sounds like a good package...

Some brands and models (Sennheiser) can be a noticeable difference. But the recording quality also needs to be good enough. Not really worth it unless you are a real audiophile. At least in my humble opinion.

Earbuds hurt my ears, I prefer over the ear headphones.

Im actually amazed that something like this would be available, this day and age.

This is an awesome all-in-one package. Kind of reminds me of

Personally, I wouldn't. I'm pretty picky about speakers and headphones, and when all that stuff is bundled into one, you are stuck with the speakers that are in there. You couldn't use another set of headphones if you wanted better quality down the road, and also, you wouldn't have a normal set of headphones to plug into a computer or another type of media player if you ever wanted too.

Really?

I feel the opposite way. I of course have used stock earbuds and I have some Klipsch in-earbuds (think earplugs) which I use instead of those. For running and working out, I also have some over-the-ear neckband headphones.

But anyway, if I were to buy headphones now (which I don't have to), I would not go back to earbuds. It's just so much nicer not sticking things in your ears imo...
With earbuds, I'd at least suggest something like my Klipsch that is "noise isolating" so you don't need the volume as high as regular earbuds since they are actually really good at sealing out outside noise when you have some music playing.

I'm sure you'd be paying a premium to get all those features in one bundle, but as long as you're ok with that, then I'd say go for it!
They look pretty discreet and don't stand out as being anything different or larger than regular over-the-ear headphones.

Me playing devil's advocate (without actually knowing the product) would guess that they aren't the best headphones, speakers, or music player and they probably made some cuts to put all three things together. But unless you're an audiophile, it really shouldn't be a huge deal - they're at least made by Sony which is a good sign.

I just don't understand how they work as a music player... is it just like an iPod Shuffle since there's no screen...? That sucks. Hopefully it supports playlists at least.

I have an old pair of these around somewhere. I loved using them to listen to music while I fell asleep.

Have you tried anything from Etymotic or Shure? Ones that go in your ear canals, instead of sitting in your ears. The silicone plugs block noise so you get clear sound while leaving the volume lower.

If they're still not comfy enough, you can get silicone molds made of your ears so they fit you exactly ($50-100 I think).

Since they're silicone instead of plastic or rubber, they're very comfortable, and they do a great job sealing against noise. I haven't felt the need to go with custom molded inserts, but people swear by them. Every professional musician for decades has had them, but now they're affordable.
