The low body to width ratio and low ride make for a very weird look overall - almost more like a commercial artist's work when he has little grasp of the real proportions of a 30s car. The big hubs add to the cartoonishness - it's like an imaginary version of a Cord or Duesenberg.

I'll say you're pretty much spot on, Ruxton made Hot Rods way before Hot Rods became a thing. The big hubs may or may not have something to do with the powertrain :P And your comment about Cord is so accurate you won't even believe it.

It's also something that afflicted Hudson through low body height, etc. - they made a car that had the look from the factory that people would later cut Buicks and Mercurys down to obtain - the lead sled/boat look. They missed what would have been an impressive secondary interest market by just thaaaat much.

Yeah, and that is a sad thing. Hudson made some awesome cars, I have a dream that involves a Hudson Hornet, some bags and some flake/pearl paint, and *KAPOW* instant lead slead.
