Thinking of postponing the Miata search...

Warning: long winded semi personal ran incoming. You've been warned. Here's a Miata to make up for it

Kinja'd!!!

Sigh. As you know by now, I've spent the last few weeks searching for a Miata to supplement my Sonic this summer. I went so far as going to Kansas City to buy one, only to get screwed over

This sucked. I had a friend drive down from Lawrence to take me, which was fine but cost me gas money, then got stuck in Lawrence with no car, had to rent one for $175 and burn a vacation day to get home. It was nice to hang out with friends in Lawrence, but still: 28 hours later and I have no Miata but I'm out $250.

Maybe this was a sign. Maybe the hailstorm that wrecked my giant plane on Saturday was a sign. Do I really want to spend a few grand on a second car with no garage to store it? I'm starting to think it's not such a great idea. I might just put it off until I buy a house, which was my original plan. Spend some of the money on my other hobby and build a quad rotor or new plane.

Tomorrow I'm going to go look at one at a dealer, but they are asking far more than I'd pay for it so I don't expect to buy it. But even if we agree on price, do I really want it right now? I don't think so...

I have no idea how many memes/gifs I've used on you so far. I say save it for a house, so you you at least have a place to put it.

LOL!

I knew what he meant, but figured I would let you wonder... And him fill in the blanks.

The thing is him having an actual plane isn't at all implausible since he loves planes more than cars and, I believe, works in the industry

RC. When I post on oppo, I feel like I'm chatting with friends so I forget that not everyone knows I fly RC, not full scale

This happened tho

It only damaged the covering, so it could have been worse.

It needed a new covering job anyways, so I took it as an opportunity to have a skilled builder cover it for me. Of course that costs almost as much as a new airframe....

Planes: even when they're R/C they're bloody expensive.

The smaller ones aren't bad. One of my favorites cost right about $200 to be ready to fly, it's got a 55" wingspan I think (3 pounds)

The big biplane was t even that bad. I had a small airplane that I wrecked. I took the electronics and stuck them into a $120 airframe. Decided I didn't like it, put it up on craigslist and traded it for the biplane. It had a gas motor which ended up being a pain in the ass and underpowered. Sold the gas motor and some other RC parts sitting around, bought the motor and batteries to convert it. That basically washed out, I maybe spent $50 more than I sold.

So now, weeks later, I'll have a giant scale biplane (15 pounds) for ~$400. That's a steal.

Dealers here are no bueno. Also, don't get down about it.

I once drove 6 hours with a truck and trailer to look at a B5 Audi S4. I had talked to the guy for a week straight interrogating him on every little thing about the car. I get there (left at 5:00 am) drive the car a bit. I slow down close to zero and punch it a bit; it slips in to neutral. The tranny was on its way out

I said thanks but no thanks and left. A week later I found my (now sold) BMW in Lawrence. You win some you lose some, but good car deals are always out there.

If you need help finding a Miata, let me know. Since I'm in Wichita, and all.

Thanks. I'm going to go test drive the one at Truck World anyways, but I do think I'm going to wait until I have garage space. Should be buying a house next January, so it's not THAT far away. In the meantime I'll keep my eyes peeled for a good deal nearby.

The Friday night car show at central and west should be starting up again soon, we should get all the Wichita oppos together when it does.

Well right on. Recently, there hasn't been too many good deals on Miatas surrounding Wichita. That one you posted a while back was the last decent deal I saw. But just check CL every day, shit always pops up.

Yeah, I go to the Central & West show every once and a while. We should get some of the people to go. I missed the last one since I was buying the Subaru that day.
