Can anyone explain in a bit more depth why it was such a big deal that Top Gear went in to the Shan? I realize it isn't exactly an automotive piece, but an in depth article about that 2 hour special would be very interesting. At least as long as you write the whole article. *Glares at Orlove*

I'm no Jalop writer but it was a big deal because that particular region has had a civil war raging for many, many years (60 something years iirc). As such, camera crews and news reporters have never been allowed in. TGUK was the first.
I'll do some research and expand later when I'm not in class, after the episodes I started looking into it because I found it fascinating.

The world's longest running civil war. And not a good one either. Hundreds of thousands killed (exact numbers are not known so it could even be millions) and millions of refugees.
