Autocar magazine reports that Dr. Zetsche, Daimler CEO, is interested in expanding their Aston Martin ownership that currently resides at 5% and was part of the engine supplying/developing deal.
It actually would make sense. Mercedes has by far not as many brands like BMW and Audi/VW, and a intense cooperation was already rumoured when Aston Martin showed their Lagonda Concept SUV some years ago - a car that was sitting on the Mercedes GL platform.

Well the last Aston to have forced induction V-8 was pretty bonkers, so I'm looking forward to seeing an AMG-sourced monster return to take up its place.

This makes sense.
Aston can use all the engines that are naturally aspirated that Mercedes won't use in the future but and Mercedes has access to GT cars that are better than their GT cars.
Besides, we all know the ingenuity that occurs when you combine British and German engineering. We got the SLR the last time, lets hope for something even more awesome.

Ford should make an offer considering how they like the grill design so much. Even if the offer is rejected last minute we all still win.

So long as they just give them money and say 'go nuts' I'm happy with this. It's worked well for Jaguar.
Oh, and the engineering has to stay in Britain. Otherwise it's not British any more, which I'm not ok with.

Common sense, it has to have some good ole' German, common sense. Remember ausländer, form follows function.

The CEO of Aston's German I think. There's definitely some of that there.

But this is Mercedes, probably the most quintessentially German, of all German automakers.
And Mercedes is not Tata, Mercedes is an engineering powerhouse, they won't just provide some money and stand back, they will want to get involved, they will want to train their best engineers, by assigning them extreme Aston Martin projects, they are so crazy about their work that even another powerhouse, Infiniti(Nissan) let them develop the Q30. They will do a lot more than running the company, they will leave their mark on every Aston Martin part.
As for Aston Martins developed in Germany, some veteran Merc execs, aren't very pleased by the fact that Mercedes develops its F1 car, in Britain, instead of Germany. So, I guess that for them, German developed/built Astons, would be payback.

Bah, I wouldn't be a fan of a Mercedes-engineered Aston Martin. Mercedes engines, fine. Mercedes parts, fine. Actual engineering, sod off. The world is lousy with German premium cars. I don't want any more of them.
I must admit, I'm not a fan of Mercedes (although I would feel the same if it was any German manufacturer). Saying that, I do acknowledge just how good their performance engineers are, especially the powertrain division. The AMG 6.2l V8 makes such a dirty, dirty noise, and oodles of power. Their F1 engines have been the best in the business for a long time too.
