But I need to send a resume by tomorrow morning, what do I include? Do I need a cover letter, and if so, what should that entail for a manufacturing position? Thank you in advance!

I applied for the Chrysler Internship in Elkrige, MD. Sent a cover letter with my resume and application. The position was a business internship, so I related my academics to my passion for cars.

OK, the position I'm applying for is a manufacturing position, basically a QC for a plant assembly. I'm going to do the same as you, just mention how my love of cars and vehicles can apply to the position, I just wondering if anyone had specific things to to be sure to include on the cover letter. Thank you for replying.

What are they asking for? Did they ask for resumes only? Usually they will ask for all the documents they want to read.
A cover letter should include reasons why you are a good choice, a good fit for the company, why you want the position, etc. A good basic cover letter should be 2-3 parrgraphs. Short, simple, to the point.
If you're applying for a very technical position, or have a great deal of related work experience, then you can be more detailed. Your resume should be 1 page. Only have 2 pages max if you have lots of work history, relevant experience of education. I guess you're in college, so you won't have enough to fill more than 1 page anyway. Unless you are some sort of over-acheiver, and nobody likes those.
Google will have plenty of free guides and templates to follow if you get stuck.

Thank you for the reply! I actually don't know what they're exactly looking for, my uncle (who works in the industry) just called me like fifteen minutes ago and told me to send a resume to this guy who's setting up a transmission plant about an hour north of here. Said the guy would call me tomorrow and I would get information then, from what I can tell it's a QC position to make sure the plant gets assembled correctly. But again thank you for the detailed reply, I appreciate it!

My name is Charles Andrew Pompei and I am writing you on the Service and Parts Business Center Intern Position at the Elkridge, MD Chrysler location. Upon finding this position, I knew it would be an opportunity I could not pass up. I have had an automobile passion since birth, specifically Mopar. I was brought up to love and understand cars since my father once owned a body shop. Since then, I have broadened my knowledge often keeping up with corporate movement, racing developments, and companies’ performance as a whole. Saying I have a passion for this company and this specific position is really an understatement.
Coupling my love for the product, I would like to briefly explain my school of study to you here. I am currently studying at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland major in Economics. As well as an advanced understanding in econ, I have also focused on studying accounting, business organization and management, business law, and entrepreneurship, just to highlight a few.
As you can see from my attached resume, I am a very diverse and well-rounded individual, who would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work in an environment where my passionate interests lie. I know that selecting individuals for your limited positions is not an easy task. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be preliminary selected for your interview process so that you can personally see for yourself my potential for your company.
I am not just another candidate, as my long-term goals far exceed your expectations for me. I do not find inspiration from athletes. For me, I look at the movers and the shakers: Bob Lutz, Lee Iacocca, Ralph Gilles, Elon Musk, and Sergio Marchionne to name a few. I would love to someday be immersed in the auto industry one way or another, hoping to bring back the passion that once drove individuals to purchase and drive cars.
Looking forward to speaking to you, I can best be reached at 410 – 800 – 8946 or Pompei426@gmail. When I created my email account years ago, I needed to add a number; I chose that one for good reason.
Most Sincerely Yours,
Charles Andrew Pompei

Remember, they may have 50 good candidates. Your letter should be Short and Sweet; The purpose of the cover letter is to
1. confirm you are looking for the job that they are posting for
2. explain why you are motivated to take this job an would be an especially good candidate
I assume the next step is a phone interview, so what you want to mention things that would make the reader say, this makes sense, and why they should want to talk to this person.

Re: QC Internship Position
I would like to confirm my interest in the manufacturing QC intern position for the summer of 2014. I am in my third year of Manufacturing Technology at Ohio State University and I feel that this experience will give me a chance to apply the statistical and operations classes that I have taken.
I come from a technical background, my father is a Mechanical Engineer working in power transmission design and I have learned a lot from him. I have built 2 dirt track bikes and done other projects over the years. Also, at Ohio State, I have worked 2 years on the formula SAE team.
After graduation I intend to take a position in manufacturing and I believe this would be an excellent opportunity to learn the business. I am especially interested in this position as I do enjoy working with statistical processes and gathering data.
I am currently on Campus and can be reached per the information below. I would be glad to discuss further this position and the skills I can bring to this job.
Best regards
cccccc
good luck

Hey, sorry I didn’t notice this before, my computer died last April and I lost my burner account, didn’t get this notification before that I guess. I did actually, went and interviewed and they would’ve hired me had I taken enough credit hours to meet their corporate requirement (60 vs. my 53 or whatever it was). It was still cool to visit the plant and get experience in an actual interview situation regardless.
Thanks again for helping me out with the cover letter, they said they were impressed with it and since I based mine off of your example and advice I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your help with it (as late as I may be now).

Glad I could help and that you had an opportunity to visit one of the plants. I’m graduating in 2 months, so I’m back to writing cover letters again :(
