I always liked this one better than Mario Kart... Kotaku "politely disagreed" with my opinion though.

But DKR was a lot more challenging than MK64, with its multiple modes, collectables and boss races. MK64 I remember completing over a weekend without much difficulty and then none of my friends would play against me, whiny bastards. DKR, Top Gear and Formula 1 World Championship were the racing games I played the most back then, they were challenging enough in single player, so I didn't need any friends for multiplayer.

DKR was better single player than MK64 was, but multiplayer, MK64 was better IMO.

Pretty much. They even told me to go back to Jalopnik when it was them who were, in fact, visiting. Add MK64 to the list of thungs the Internet is pointlessly obsessed over...

I actually never really got to play any in Multiplayer, I was just too good for my friends... :/

Back in 1998, there was a record/electronics store in a mall in Porto Alegre promoting the then new Nintendo 64 with F1 World Championship in the form of a mini challenge where the winner kept playing and the loser had to pass on the controller. It was sponsored by the store and a local radio, and the more you won, the more useless trinkets you got as prizes. Anyways, being 8, I was just standing there watching the older kids play when some guys from the radio pulled me to the front and put a controller in my hand, against the winner of the previous heat, some 15 years old dipshit with an Internacional FC jersey. And I won. Easily. I beat the next guy too, and the one after that, and the next one as well, and then eventually they pulled the controller out of my hands, gave me a free CD and the trinkets I'd won from the radio and told me I had to give the other kids a chance.

Ditto. Much preferred Diddy Kong over Mario Kart. Planes and hovercraft!

Oh yeah, those were badass on their own right. Massive amounts of oversteer with the Hovers.

Oh god... This game, along with Super Smash Bros pretty much defined my late elementary / early middle school years. I still enjoy it to this day if I manage to please the cartridge gods with a good enough blowjob.
