I've heard of people having success with a heat gun and dry ice

local body shop. ask for paintless dent removal. Pay out $35-50. Go home dent free. You didnt even have to go on the internet.

I've seen this on YouTube too with a blow dryer and a can of compressed air held upside down

This tool comes as a welded on stud or with a screw on the end to pull dents.

You want to use a heat gun on the crest of the dent as well prior to popping it to soften the paint. Sometimes the snap back causes the brittle paint to chip or crack

I think that only works on plastic parts (Bumper covers).

It works for metals as well. The heat relaxes the metal, then the application of dry ice stiffens it quickly generally popping (smaller) dents back to their original shape.

I guess it depends on the metals I think. I've done it on bumpers successfully, but once tried it on a Volvo s80 quarter panel with no success.

Depends on the dent. Anything that can be pulled out with a suction cup is a very mild dent probably caused by a deformation somewhere else on the panel. Like a ding at the leading edge will make a depression over the wheel arch. Take care of the ding and then use the suction cup. Just pulling the depression and leaving the ding won't last, eventually it will come back.
You can get a halfway decent hammer and dolly set for about 50 bucks and it's money well spent.
