This isn't a post about how we can't get RS6s and all that garbage that no one even buys. No, this is about a car that a lot of people would actually buy. Easily in numbers to turn profits on. But they don't.
The RS5. Rather, how we have a glorious RS5 but no RS4. Has Audi gone full retard? Have they forgotten what the market also likes to buy? That some people genuinely do go and buy a bonkers 4 door car that can handle family duty AND be a joy to toss around?
The RS4 Wagon doesn't count. Once again, stuff no one buys. But the RS4? Are they really going to let the M3 and C63 sit there taking all those sedan sales? Oh wait, what am I saying. Thats exactly what they have let happen since 2009.
Is Audi run by communists who hate sedans? Or just high powered sedans? Or just specific sedans? Or just...I don't know. Shenanigans?
Or maybe they were afraid of pricing?
I can no longer build a M3 coupe or sedan but Mercedes still has the C63 507 Coupe up and you can get a fully loaded 507 for 80,090 in Canada. A RS5? Similarly optioned you get the lovely priced of 94,500. Not a typo. Okay, lets kill the ceramic brakes. Thats still 89,500.
Is the RS5 worth 10 grand over the AMG? Or the BMW? Is it? Did Audi just say fuck it and go all in regardless of this massive gap in price? Who knows. I don't know.
All I know is I'm rambling. I want a RS4 sedan. Not a coupe. Not a wagon. A sedan. Yes. Me. Sedan. I'm weird.
See that above? Pretend thats a sedan. There. Sweet dreams.

If they were smart and brought the A5 Sportback variants over, this problem would be solved and they'd make a bunch of money.

Audi did bring the RS4 to our shores. Sales were disappointing.

You should just get an M3 and call it a day ;)

The RS5 would haunt my dreams nightly had is been offered with a good old 6MT like in the S5. Same goes for C63, but let's be realistic.

I truthfully told my wife that I was going to buy a used family sedan.

There was at least one (blue) near me in Maryland. We got into some spirited driving sessions at several points. All strictly on professional closed circuit courses. Not.

The problem is most definitely the price. Price/Power ratio when compared to the M3 or C63 just isn't there. Not for the premium Audi wanted. Which sucks, because I'd trade my truck in in a heartbeat for an RS4 if they'd sell them here again. But they really do need to get their pricing back in line with BMW and Mercedes. That's why they didn't sell. Well, that and the RS4 got like 8mpg. Audi can do better. Much better.

The RS5 took over the RS4 sedan's slot in our lineup. Audi is run by accountants, and they knew they would never sell the RS4 Avant here. So why build an RS4 sedan for our market when the RS5 fills the slot.
Oh and for the record, there is no way that a B8 RS4 Avant would not sell as many units as the RS4 Cab, or RS5 Cab (about a few hundred units each). No freakin way.
And if Audi actually ever does send us a B8 RS4 Avant, I'll slap down a deposit asap.

10 grand you don't have to spend on timing chain jobs. They also depreciate much, much more slowly.

If we're talking B7s, isn't it the same motor? Does that mean different timing chains? Plus you can get a lower mileage S4 compared to a higher mileage RS4.

Same block, but most of the other parts are different. The RS4 is the first application of the 4.2 FSI engine which is used in lots of Audis these days. It has direct injection, different heads and internals (and in the RS4, it has a much higher redline). It also revised timing chains and guides; RS4's have never needed new chains or guides (unlike the S4's, which have a %10 failure rate...and replacing the chains requires pulling the motor).
Being someone that looks at S4's and RS4's on a daily basis in the classifieds, I highly dispute your mileage claim. Besides, due to the timing chain issue, mileage is more an issue for the S4 than the RS4...the RS4's revisions to the engine are bulletproof. Its only heel is that it needs a carbon cleaning ever 20-30k miles.

Then your math is off. Five minutes on autotrader proves this.
Out of the 65 2006-2008 B7 S4 sedans on Autotrader, %63 have sub-75k mileage, and %36k have sub-50k mileage.
Out of the 50 RS4s on Autotrader, %76 have sub-75k mileage, and %40k have sub-40k mileage.
This doesn't even take into account B6 S4's, which would skew the numbers far more in the RS4's favor.

Is that a pic of your actual ride or a stock photo? It has the same wheels that I have. I love those wheels. Mine paint is white.

I just tagged that from the image above. I have the same wheels (for summer), but mine is silver (SSII). It's 70 degrees outside and I'm leaving in 20 minutes - can't wait to fire her up, open all the windows and find some open road!

I agree, I love them. I rubbed up against a curb for the first time last weekend. I was so pissed. Luckily it was a brief contact so the curb rash isn't long.

Thanks! It isn't too bad. I'm probably the only one who notices it. It was night and I didn't see the storm drain. Storm drain curbs are rough because they are a tiny bit taller and there is a metal lip on the concrete. I heard a little "tink" sound when I was parking and thought "oh shit".
Normally I don't risk trying to park that close to the curb. I was just being paranoid because I was visiting a friend and his street has a fair amount of traffic. I thought the chances of some drunk driver brushing up against my car would go down if I was closer to the curb. In reality being an inch or two closer won't really make any difference. If something random like a drunk driver hitting your parked car happens it's just going to happen...

Well you had good intentions man so don't take it too hard. I live in NYC so I know all about storm drains, uneven curbs, asshole drivers taking out your mirror or God forbid scraping your car, shit sucks.
