Give it a try..
I've been one of the more vocal people here whenever Gawker made changes to Kinja, this time I won't be.
You might ask why, and I shall answer as best as I can.
1. This new version actually makes the comments better. Why? Well, the "best" ones will be the ones you see first, and I'm sorry to say this Oppo but we've had some trolls lately, trolls won't show up unless you click "all replies". That is a GOOD thing, and frankly if you can't be bothered to simply click on "all replies" I can't and won't feel sorry for you.
2. People are complaining about stuff not working on mobile.. That makes me wonder if some of you see a VERY different Kinja... Whenever I use Oppo on a mobile platform I see all the things, all the time.. Sure, I use Chrome and not Safari.. but still.
3. Sure, there are bugs, stuff that don't work.. Here's a hot tip; Tell that to our Tech crew (Steve, Ernie, Greg and so on) tag your post Kinja Help, send them an email, follow and respond to @Kinjastatus and or @Kinjahelp, if you act like a normal person you'll get answers AND help from them. Worst case scenario, send matt a tweet.
4. Jalopnik and Oppo end up as guineapigs.. we know that... do you guys know WHY?? It's because we're a bunch of nice people, we give proper feedback, act as adults. I'm sorry to say that this time we have not (myself included).
Feel free to tell me that I'm a friggin' idiot, I won't argue with you, but don't call Tiger a failure until you've tried it for some time (I've been using it a few weeks now, and I like it).

You're not an idiot. However, I don't agree with 1. Best = most replies and most stars, right? With ?tiger=off the most popular replies are already on top. Trolls who are ignored won't show up unless you scroll to the bottom. Trolls who get many replies will rise to the more popular replies, but tiger won't change this as the troll post will be labeled as 'popular' as it gets many replies.

And what if a non-troll comment with something important to say does not get as many stars? I guess it would be lost in the mess? I don't know, honestly.

Yeah, I did not think that through did I. My thoughts was more along the line that Oppo is mature enough that we don't respond to trolls.
My Bad, disregard that part of my rant.
I won't say I'm right in everything I wrote either, I just wanted people to actually TRY Tiger before they doomed it to hell and back :)

I wish I could somehow click that star more than once ;)

I think we've all just gotten used to the old format, and the changes are always rejected no matter the improvements.
Typing this from a WP7 device, I can say it loads faster than on the previous Kinja. It took me some time to get used to the comments view, but a minor change had it settled for me.

That's the thing I'm talking about.
And yeah, the new Kinja loads MUCH faster.

Nope. This is not a better format. It's a different format. That's all. It does nothing better and several things worse. Too much clicking around required to read comments. Inscrutable logic in the layout, how comments appear, etc. I find myself regularly opening things in new tabs...because moving forward/back doesn't work worth a damn. Once again it's Denton dictating change for the sake of change, as if moving shit around will make better comments appear. It won't. It's going to make fewer comments appear when people realize their opinions will vanish into a buried pile of clicks.

I've always opened things in a new tab, perhaps that's why I don't find it worse. I hate Denton as much as the next man, but I don't see this as the worst thing ever done. (however, the fact that we're discusing it is a good thing).
Once again, tell Tech about it.
Sorry if I seem like a douche, I just want people to tell the people who work with it about it.

I've been using Neue Kinja since it rolled out. I've been pleased with it overall, at least once they ditched that idiotic "All Replies" megathread nonsense. I wish the pictures were bigger, and I wish there were pictures on mobile (they didn't put them back, did they? I haven't looked today). Everybody was freaking out last night, but nothing's new for me today.

That thing about no pictures on mobile is something I don't understand... I see pictures on mobile.. Could be my settings though.

Yeah, going to All replies on mobile fixes the commenting issue, but I haven't been on desktop version enough to know for sure yet. One thing that needs to be fixed is that picture thumbnails aren't showing up on the Oppo FP

Tell Tech? I'll tell my cats...because my cats have as much influence on it as Ernie, Greg et al. They're not the motivators of this steaming pile of crap...they're simply the poor guys with the shovels and I *never* curse them for Kinja and its legions of fail.
The 'old' version pushed most recommended comments to the top, it showed me an entire conversation with ONE click, and visually wasn't a busy stomach churning mess. But this version...this is an incredibly bad iteration of Kinja. Breathtakingly bad. It does nothing better and pretty much everything worse.

My experience with Gawker site updates, and I've seen many as I've been here since 2009, is that they tend to SUCK HARD when first introduced and work generally just fine after a number of weeks (months) when the many errors are ironed out. It's like they're Beta testing in a live environment. My strategy tends to be to continue to use the old version as long as I can as the new version will improve during that time, so I'm not subjected to the worst errors.

My biggest issue is the wider reading pane. Most comments are a sentence or two - grouping those in those columns is much easier to read and browse through than having everything in the full width pane.

And it seems that Jalopnik/oppo are(is?) the guineapigs...
I've already complained about the live beta testing, I think my first approved post was about that actually. But as someone who's been in tech on other sites I don't see a huge problem with Tiger If I'm honest.
