For me, I like a ton of weird cars. And to help me with this imaginary hopeful future world decision, my friend shares similar tastes in cars with me. And thinking of all the price ranges, the most difficult one that we have is the $122,000 range.

Aston Martin: V8 Vantage
Audi: R8, RS7, A8L
BMW: Neither of us are large fans of it, but it's 750Li.
Porsche: 911 Targa, Panamera GTS
Mercedes: E63 Wagon, S550 Sport
Lexus: LS600hL

Er. TL;DR, we like large powerful saloon cars, but at this price range, supercars start factoring in, and it's just the most difficult decision we spend trying to reason with in our free time arguing for a different car every time.

And then there's like 50 Miata argument. :O

Any thoughts?

If you also include the awesome used cars you can get for $122K then your mind explodes!

Audi R8 V10 6MT and Gallardo 6MT

Ferrari F430 6MT

Multiple used Astons with V12s

Porsche 997.2 GT3

Lots of Mercs

And that's just a short list

Other BMWs that are sorta close to $122k:

M6 coupe - $111,200
M6 gran coupe - $115,000
M6 convertible - $117,500
Alpina B7 - $132,000

I'm sure any of the M6 variants could be brought up to $122k with some options, and I think the B7 only comes fully loaded (there's no configurator on the BMW USA site).

Agreed. There's a V8 S that cruises here at Purdue's campus and it's the nastiest, most glorious thing ever. I can't even imagine the sensory experience of seeing and hearing a Type-R Coupe in person, much less having one in my garage.

You pick the 750Li over an M5 or an M6 (which are about that price once you add in the competition package etc, ceramic brakes etc.)

I'm a sucker for smaller V8s. They sound so damn good. I like the Corvette V8 too, it's a great engine with massive torque. But when it comes down to sound I love the Jag, the Ferrari V8s, the BMW S65, etc.

I've always been a fan of four-bangers just because of the range of sounds you can get out of one (500 Abarth vs. Focus ST vs. vs. SVO Mustang, etc.) and how humble and regular they are, but I can't deny my love of a big lazy N/A V8. Hell, I almost bought a Fox body with a 4.6 Modular swap but my mom vetoed it, even though it was my money. So many tears :''''''(

Parent vetos suck! Especially when it's your own money!

But I understand. Hell I'm 35 and still won't buy a car with my own money if my old man hates it. I just don't want to deal with him making sarcastic comments if the car ends up having issues. The "I told you so" jabs are not worth it...

Your old man sounds like my mom. I kicked and screamed and fought for my Focus since my mom didn't want me "racing around" in a "race Focus": I prepared a whole presentation of power-to-weight ratios and horsepower-per-liter and comparison to other cars and articles about handling-oriented cars being safer and all sorts of things just to convince her to let me buy it, which she eventually did. Now every time it has problems (which is often) she just gives me this "what did I tell you" look that just kills me, man. I still won, though, it's so worth it haha.

Oh man that is tough! She rubs it in every time you have an issue.

The funny thing about my old man is that he's a huge gearhead. So he's not opposed to fast cars, as long as he likes that car and thinks it's a good one.

And what he likes and doesn't like is pretty random...

You also have both the Maserati Quattroporte and Gran Turismo in that range, too.

Basically, yeah haha. She's one of those "I'll let you make a mistake and learn from it yourself" kind of parents, but she hates cars and anything to do with them so I always hear something when I tell her to be on the lookout for a parts shipment. She's a Honda devotee where cars are infallible, unbreakable machines, and any sign of wear or maintenance is a glitch in the Matrix. Weirdly enough she and my dad owned a few Camaros and Corvettes and a Midget back in the day, so she's not a stranger to high-maintenance cars. Probably why she didn't want another one.

80k gallardo and take it to underground racing. If your going to kill yourself with speed might as well make it efficient.

I can EASILY make an F10 M5 cost 122k as well as an M6.

Oh god, I forgot the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaag. And the Range Rover Autobiography.

I don't think the Jaaaaaaaaaaaag is around 122k. But the Range Rover is definitely going to be added onto the list, along with the Nismo GT-R. Hard to believe that they seem to be in the kind of similar market in my head. Expensive Opulence LOL.

When I was researching for this, I expected the 760Li to be in the 122k range although truth be told, the A8L W12 wasn't in that range either. I wanted the Alpina to be on the list, but it was too expensive :[

Didn't put the M5 because it wasn't a full size huge luxury barge. (At least it wasn't like executive large barge size.) I do love the M5 right now though, not so much the M6, even though I kind of like the Gran Coupe.

Also, why get two cars with the same drivetrain? How about a bit of variety?

You'd disagree about it being a barge if you drove one. They new M5 is way bigger than the old 7's ever were.

I think you go Audi R8 6spd (V8 + Supercharge or V10+)

But ultimately, it depends what you're looking for. That's my sports car pick. No Jag because ragtop or 911 because carrera's look too moring (strong second choice though). If you want best all around car, I think you go with the RS7.

Yes! Or a Testarossa, JZA80 Supra, 500E, NA Miata, and 240Z/Chevy II/other affordable classic. Those would not only be incredible to have, but would also appreciate in value. There is always a better choice.

You know I think I am going to stop 401K contributions permanently.

Way better to invest in cars. All the 401K manager does is charge me fees and the value goes up really slowly over time.
