But found a Hellrot E36 M3 for sale locally. 95' with 136k on it. Originally an auto, fortunately swapped around 75k. If the price is right, and of course this doesn't become the 20th car that sells while I'm dialing the owners number, my E90 will have another buddy.
This probably shows you how wide my interests are. Well, most the cars I've been looking at were BMW's, but I've looked at yachts (E38 short sport), future classics (E39's), even a few bro-mobiles (E46's). I really do have a thing for high maintenance machines. The weathers warming up, perfect time to get a weekend cruiser fixed up!

I'm probably getting ahead of myself here, but in the perfect future I'd have: an E38 740i short sport (non iL, M-sport), an E39 M5, and an E46 M3. The trifecta.

Son?
Are you taking after me and getting all performance cars? LOL
What's funny is that since I have two M's and a Porsche the bimmer I sometimes wish I really had is not rare at all. It's a black on black E90 328i AT with a lot of miles on it and a decent amount of wear.
Why you ask? Because it gets good gas mileage and blends in really well. You can use it for dumb trips in traffic and park it at Walmart. Now that the F30 has been out a while nobody looks twice at a run of the mill E90 328i with no mods and no M-Sport pack.

Funny, you have the cars I dream about having and I have the E90 sparkling graphite on black Auto non sport! It does blend very well, but just adding a nicer set of wheels and a few other mods gives it such a presence. It's a great car, I do love DD'ing it.
I doubt I'll own all 3 of the trifecta at once, but it would still be awesome to get to own each one for any amount of time.

That is so funny!
Your car is such a great all around car. Anytime somebody asks me what's the best practical DD that's also sporty my answer is always the same:
If traffic is a problem then get an E90 AT. If it's not get an E90 6MT.
If you have more to spend get a very clean low mileage one with lots of options.
If you have less to spend then find a higher mileage one with less options. If you're worried about where you drive and park then save money and get one that already has some blemishes.
The N/A 3.0L I6 will last forever. It's just a great car. I would never spend more for a new F30 328i. Just not worth it IMO.

Yeah I'd still take an LCI E90 over an F30 any day of the week. It's been dead on reliable so far and I still have fun DD'ing it. Sometimes I wish I had the 6MT but steptronic is holding me off well enough lol. It's still simple enough to DIY, which is great because I have no experience with FI engines so if I had an F30 I'd be completely lost haha.
The E9x platform is amazing. I'd love to pick up an E92 eventually, as I'm really not having any luck finding older cars (E36/E46,E39,E38's) near me and I unfortunately can't spend a lot of time traveling to get the car. For now, the search continues!

The LCI E90 is just such a damn good car! The iDrive is much improved. The car is reliable. It looks great. No FI on the 328i to make things run hot or make them hard to maintain.
Lol I sometimes think of buying an E92 328i or 335i or 335is just because if I get a good enough deal. Do I need one? No. But it's a damn good coupe to have if you get a killer deal on it. If it was an E92 328i or 335i I would want the 6MT. If it was the 335is then I would want DCT just because it was available.
And sometimes I wish I had a blue E92 M3 6MT to be a garage buddy for my E90 M3 DCT. But that's just crazy. I'm crazy. I need to keep paying off debt and not thinking of more cars that I don't need. But it's hard when you are an oppohaulic...

That thing is super nice!!
Right now I'm still trying to pay down debt and sell the E46. If I can get my personal debt to zero or close to zero then I can consider a new toy.
There is one exception - if I get qualified for a HELOC I might use it to pay off more expensive debt and get a new toy, haha

Need help unloading the E46? I can get it out on some forums if you'd like!

Thanks!
I'll let you know if I need to take you up on that.
There is an opponaut who said he will have the funds soon. If he does then he gets dibs. If he doesn't then I'll have to get it on the forums or do consignment at the used sports car/supercar/collector car dealer down the street from me.
I'm kind of interested in the consignment option only because it could come in handy again in the future and cause it would be a good idea to build a relationship with these guys. If I build a relationship and want a used car in a specific color with specific options in the future I could tell them what I want and ask for them to hit me up if they get one before they list it.
Some desirable cars are like desirable properties - you want to get a pocket listing before they get marketed.

Now that's good thinking! That'll really come in handy if the car you want to pursue next is a rare color/option combo.
Once you become really close with them, you can maybe even pick something up from an auction! Think of the savings!!

i thought of that too, now that would be awesome!
but i doubt they would do that for me. they would want to buy the car at the auction themselves to mask the purchase price from me. that way they can maximize how much money they make when they sell it to me.
also they wouldn't want to divulge tricks of the trade. i know a couple guys that buy regular cars at auctions to flip. they go for small margins and volume so they don't even buy used bimmers. they just go for economy cars and mainstream cars. they would buy an exotic for me at the auction for a flat rate but they admitted that it's hard to do without experience.
the exotics don't come up at auction as often and you need experience to avoid overpaying. it's scary to buy a car you aren't even allowed to drive first.
and i think a lot of the good exotics never make it to auction. former customers and other dealers that are going to take them in on a trade but don't normally sell that kind of car call the owners of speciality shops. it's a world that you need to have connections in.
if i had the connections i would get my dealer license so i could go to the auctions myself!

Funny you mention that, my uncle just opened up a used car dealership. I tried to convince him to pick up a bunch of bimmers, Porsches, and other fun cars but he's mainly picking up pickups and economy cars.. sigh (it's in Mississipi)
The fun I could have with a dealers license...... I'd be broke within a month lol! Though I really do think i'd be able to make a profit.

That is cool! I hope it works out for your uncle.
Economy cars and pickups are way safer, even in more affluent states. Reason is that if something ends up being wrong with the car after you buy it you don't lose as much money as you do if you have an expensive issue with a luxury car.
I think I could maybe make a profit too. But it would take time to learn the business and get the connections. And I'm too busy with my regular job to do that on the side...

Yeah I always let myself think I could flip cars, but I don't even have the time!
