Would you own a Tesla Model S as a daily driver? Why or why not? If the model E were available I can tell you right now it would be VERY high on my list of cars for functional purposes.

Sure there are a lot of cars I would like to own such as a C7 Stingray or a BRZ, but for functional use I would love a Model E or Model S.

Assuming again that cost is not an issue would you choose something over the Model S? The criteria you use to make this decision is purely functional. Not fun or ascetic.

They are a hoot. I don't know still. I'll be the first to say it, what about noise?

Yes. My commute is only about 11 km/7 miles one way and it's immensely practical.

Yes, I'd very much like a Model S as a daily driver. Why? Why not? All that torque, in a good looking car, I see no reason why not, other than that I don't have the moneys for one.

The Model S is the best DD. Literally. It's the best at that function. Think about it.

Yes, I would. I entertained the thought of one recently but became very sad when I saw the Canadian pricing.

AWD - Check
Luxury - Check
Power - POWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Will it baby? - Check
Will it carry golf clubs? - Check
Will it be cheap to maintain? - Check

I miss anything?

Yes, but I would need two to sooth my worries about the range. I'm thinking I can leave one at the office plugged in at night and the other at home.

nah. I would still have a non-electric car in the family for range purposes. Granted that would require you have a family and more than 1 vehicle. If I was single and only owned 1 car that would be prohibitive as I am inclined to drive somewhere long distances.

It's cheap to run too. From what I've heard, it only has 22 moving parts. These things will last forever with battery replacements.

Miata is the best for a lot of things, but as someone with a wife and a child I could not possibly own a Miata as a daily driver. It will not baby.

Pure function..? Hmm.. nope, Can't think of anything I'd rather have, I would consider a Lexus GS450h though, but I'd rather have the Model S as a DD.

Note: Choice made on the basis that I only drive 20-40 miles each day, if I drove more I'd pick something else.

I think my ultimate range car is probably a diesel A8. Big damn luxury car, tons of options, and amazing highway mileage with power to spare. That, or an S8 so I can pass everything :)

Functional, hmmmm. What are the criteria for function? Big boot? Fuel mileage? Space? What are we talking about. Because I'm thinking I can make a great case for that new Infiniti Eau Rouge.

The criteria for function are the criteria that you need met. For me that means room for 1 or 2 children. I don't have a particularly long commute (5 miles). My longest trips are normally 60 miles round trip. I have a wife with a car that can service for long range trips. For me function is golf clubs, baby, cost to operate, and ability to handle a Michigan winter like 2014.

You're WRONG. On the SUV they're putting motors on the front to power all four wheels, and they'll eventually do the same for the Model S, but not yet.

Bowler Nemesis. Wait no. Ok so two kids, good gas mileage, AWD, I would say TDi Touareg, but then you get to the cost to operate part and that throws it out the window. WRX, but a bit cramped for long hauls and not great MPG. Damn this is hard. So here's two options. First Buy a Fiesta Rally car, put back the interior and drive that. Good MPG, Awesome in winter, and plenty of room for everyone.

Second option.
