This stereotype in particular is the AssHat Stereotype
The AssHat that always wants to do one of the following:
1. Thinks his car is best car
2. Does much burnouts
3. Ruins car shows and Cars & Coffee by doing something stupid
4. Is an AssHat
5. Tries to doing something cool, ends up doing something stupid and crashes his Stang. Like this:

You should use this picture for the 3rd gen

You need to include the refreshes during the 1st generation.

I like them, and think the 5th gen refresh looks really sharp. I'd have to see a 6th gen in person to make my mind up on that. That being said, even though I'm in the market for a similar vehicle, I'm definitely not considering getting a mustang.
They're priced really well, and very attractive. Just too heavy for my tastes, and in my part of the country incredibly common. I think they're cool, I just want something more unique, really. Car hipster, I guess.

What, exactly, is the "mustang stereotype"? I mean...there are LOTS of impressions people have about mustang owners/mustangs...to which do you refer?

Let me add that in right quick!

I would have thought this would be the 2nd gen (or 3rd)?

I think that is definitly one of the stereotypes... the "I bought into the muscle car marketing machine" guy. Or the armchair car guy....there are so many others too. The mustang covers a lot of personality types and demographics but I will agree that, in general, the Mustang owner is typically seen as a car guy only in the sense that they believe buying a mustang makes them a car guy.

I'm pretty sure the steering wheel, gauge cluster, a/c controls, vents, and radio are the same that were in my explorers. My first car was a 95 explorer and second was an 04 explorer Sport Trac. Shortly after getting the Sport Trac I picked up a friend who had just indulged in mother nature's finest herb. After riding for a bit he looks at me and says I thought u got a new truck. The interiors were that similar and he was that far off in another place.

I'm definitely a bit biased towards the 1st gen Mustangs, and would daily drive mine if it were quieter and got better fuel economy.

That's definitely not a 3rd gen...

Stereotypes exist for a reason.

you missed my favorite. I still consider this a Stang, and it wins all the above categories for me

Just wrote a story yesterday about how I used to Oppo so much in my dad's 1982 GT 5.0. Front seats were like couches.
The car is currently consigned:

I guess it depends on what the 68-70's are considered, 1st gen refresh or 2nd gen. I'd consider them a refreshed 1st gen, but there are probably some that consider them a 2nd gen (just guessing).
Edit: I see you added them as 1st gen, is there an official generation list?

Facelift =/= generation. Underneath, much of the Mustang was the same as before.

official gen. list? Not sure I wikied it up really quick and apparently, these were all refreshes for the first gen or a facelift if you will.

I think the 6th gen looks great (well, at least from the outside). But is just lacks that retro look that made me fall in love with the 5th gen the second I saw the first picture of it.

I'd assume the 71-74(?) would be different enough? The Charger generations are 66-67, 68-70, 71-74, wasn't sure if Mustangs followed a similar pattern.

The '73 deserves more love.

My confusion came from being more of a mopar guy. The Charger generations, for example, are usually referred to as 66-67 (1st), 68-70 (2nd), 71-74(3rd), etc. The Mustang seemed to have similar design changes, but I guess I was wrong. A google search lists the 1st gen to be '65-73 for Mustangs.

I like the '73, but I prefer the '70 better:

The other day I was driving my Mustang down a small side street and saw another Mustang in a line of cars going the other way. I thought, "See, that guy's driving reasonably — the Mustang stereotype is B.S."
Then the Mustang dude did a burnout and tried to streak around the two cars ahead of him (that were already over the 25 mph speed limit on this tiny street), only to immediately slam on his brakes because of a speed bump. -_-

I have seen all 5 of those thing done by guys driving all kinds of cars. Mustang guy doesn't come to mind when I look at that list. I always feel like mustangs where sort of girlie. Its for the guy or girls that's mot really a car persons bit wants to look like they are.
