What kind of car does Ellen drive?

If there's one thing I'm really excellent at, it's judging people by their cars.

I don't think she's particularly hilarious for a comedian BUT she does have a certain air of constant joy that is very admirable.

She also seems fun to hang with. I'd do shots with her

I think I heard once that she has a somewhat older Toyota Land Cruiser.

mmmm? yeah kinda sort of initially? That could go either way (no pun intended). I think there is less discrepancy on how they treat their car and drive it. Still auto related :]

And the fact that she is insanely entertaining/funny doesn't hurt.

But yeah, what she said. All this coming out and professing whether you are or aren't is just silly. If someone makes you happy, love them. It shouldn't be as complicated as our society makes it.

Not trying to be funny here, but looking at cars definitely helps when shopping for an apartment or house. The rental company can spruce up the model unit. A Realtor can work out the details to set up a house before a viewing. But you *cannot* hide the parking lot.

If you go to a community to look for a place, check out the other cars. If your car would be on the lower end, that's normally a good sign for you as a buyer (I find). When your old car becomes one of the "nicer" ones, that can be telling as well.

But yeah, the quote in Ellen's picture is spot on.

Update: Her current ride is a Porsche 911 Turbo.

And this past Christmas, she bought Portia a Land Rover Defender , apparently.

This is absolutely true. In 2006, when I moved into my old apartment complex, the cars in the parking lot were pretty normal — or so I thought — for a place in its price range. It was in a pretty nice section of town but the rent was pretty low and the cars in the lot tended to be 2-3 year old Civics and Corollas, 4-5 year old Camrys and Accords, and a few new Hyundais. Some guy who was only there Monday through Wednesday drove a brand-new BMW 645i. Up by the studio apartments there was a Chrysler Crossfire that was only there during the week. All the cars seemed to be maintained and none looked bad.

By the time my wife and I moved out, six years later, and after the economic and housing collapse, the lot was littered with faded, ugly, beat up cars with values in the $500-3000 range. There was also more drug activity than the occasional teenage kid smoking pot by the dumpster, and we heard gunshots twice in the two months before we moved out. Now we live in a neighborhood with a bunch of beige cars driven by septuagenarians. It's quiet, except for the two houses on either side of us with tween kids.

so true, When I was looking at my current apartment, that's the first thing I did. Look for a minimum of bumper stickers, minivans, and piles of shit.

I've liked Ellen since I first saw her do stand-up on Carson years ago. I liked her in her network sitcom before she came out. I liked her after she came out, and today she still makes me laugh and smile. But in a different way than, say, Louis CK, or even Jon Stewart does.

She is very funny, but in a much more positive way. And I think that takes more skill, more character, and more heart than a lot of people give her credit for, as a comedienne.

Kinja'd!!! Jagvar > AMC/Renauledge
03/11/2014 at 11:38

Kinja'd!!!1

She is the master of "clean" comedy, never having to resort to raunchy or toilet humor, and building most of her material out of simple observations. She also swears very, very rarely, which makes it quite impactful the few times she actually does.

Kinja'd!!! AMC/Renauledge > Jagvar
03/11/2014 at 11:47

Kinja'd!!!0

Absolutely. And I think her comedy is all the better for it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Louis CK, David Cross, et al. But someone who can manage to be genuinely funny and clean and positive is so rare.

Comedy seems to keep getting darker and more profane. And that's okay to some extent. But Ellen, to my mind, represents a much cleverer, more humane kind of comedy. It isn't saccharine, either. It's just...her. And I really appreciate her.

When I moved into my old apt, there was an E46 M3, a new Hemi Charger, a ML class an a couple other nicer cars. Everybody was cool and respected everybody else. When I left there was no respect, trash everywhere and an Old corolla, a Pontiac Bonneville and a 13 year old Le Saber.

That's kind of like the saying, "Can't we all just get along?"

The answer is no, forever and unequivocally no.

The world will always be populated with those who will not and/or cannot "get along". We just have to be the best that we can, or want to be individually and live with it. Not to be overly negative here, but I just don't see it ever happening.

I think that in doing so, she laid a lot of the groundwork for a more caring and accepting environment. A lot of progress has been made in the 17 years since, such that coming out isn't as much of a big deal as it once was.

No? It's not? Seems like at least once a month there's a story about somebody coming out. And they're always so brave for it. Cause apparently the details of people's personal/private lives are still a big deal.
