"Battery Tender Unnecessary" (carac)

From one of the longest threads in the AMG customer forums. These are among their most active and loyal customers (people on there have been buying Mercedes and AMGs for decades as well as the relatively new guys). I think our feelings on the subject are pretty obvious. It would probably shift even more towards "No" once you start badging a 4.0 liter engine with a "63". Now they can't badge it as anything less than 45 since that's what the 2.0-liter cars are labels. We'll see.
It's dumb. I COULDN'T STAND when the E46 3-Series came out and the badged the 2.5-liter the "323" so it wouldn't seem too close to the 2.8-liter "328" in numbering (328-323=5 vs. 328-325=3). Just man up and badge along with displacement. Like I said in the other reply: "It's like wearing a shirt that says you're 6 feet tall, when you are actually 4 feet...what does it matter if you are just as fast or faster?"

Here's a better question. Why do we even continue to bother with badging for displacement? In this day and age, displacement doesn't mean much when we have small turbo engines producing more torque and horsepower than larger displacement NA engines.

Or how women still insist they're a size or two smaller than they actually are. In the end, she's still fat, in denial, but looks like a bigger fool for trying to be something she's not.

Yea, forget badges altogether, just post a list of performance specs on the back of the car.

I do not even care about their stupid nomenclature anymore.

Nomenclature has been such a mixed bag over history that I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

I obviously wasn't serious. I think that's why manufacturers should embrace the "t" for turbo. Rather than BMW 328 and 335, just have 330 and 330t. It's 100% honest. Sure, the turbo 4 in a WRX was making more power then the much larger NA 4.6 in Panthers, but that's an apples to oranges comparison. As long as you can tell base from loaded across the model range, people will be (better be!) fine with it.

I know with BMW it's at least explained a little historically. One of the old 745i cars was in fact a 3.0l turbo (I think). Their rationale was that the turbocharged engine produced the same power as a 4.5l naturally aspirated mill.
You could argue that that explains both the current BMWs as well as the C63. Personally, I just like the sound of 'C63'. More than C55 and C40 anyway :)
