My dad and I always had a thought that once I graduated college, instead of getting a new car, we were going to get something that we could share and instead I would work for my own car (like any normal human being.)

My dad and I really like Delta Integrale Evos and occasionally even thought about getting an old 911 (RS replica preferably back a year or two ago when they were reasonably priced kind of.) To do classic car rallies since they seem to be in really pretty places, and we love photography and cars.

But one of things that both of us hate is expensive maintenance which is one of the major things that usually end our classic rally daydreaming.

Any opinions on this?

Assuming you're in the US, I think Porsche would be easier to find parts for and maintain than Delta Integrale, but I think a Delta would be the coolest vintage(?) car to have. A Mini would probably not be too expensive.

We actually never discussed GTIs o-o

But we did see a Peugeot 205GTi that my dad fell in love with at a Cars and Coffee.

My dad's like almost 6 feet tall, when the G35 coupe came out, his midlife crisis said yes, but the seat adjustment said no. His fancy with small hatchbacks don't agree with his height. HAHAH.

I'm tall as well, so I understand why that won't work. An old Corvair rally car sounds like a fun idea to me. Might have already been done, probably has.

My dad is biased towards Japanese for new cars, European for old cars :[

Almost fainted when I told him I want a Mustang, SS or Corvette.

Too much Italian for our budget to handle HAHA.

Any opinion on like a 308 or something?

I have no idea about those, sorry. Just import a Mk1 Escort, then rally.

Lotus Elan (original one). Nothing too complicated to maintain, if you get a sorted one to start with, and they're still remarkably cheap for one of the best-handling cars ever built.
