What else can happen and make you think it was a hood cable snap? Please don't tell me it was just stuck shut with dirt... I will laugh at you, and you have been warned.

nope.... cable timing was wonky... One of the posts in the engine bay for the latch cable seemed to be held to its mount location with zip ties.... I checked everything and did a temporary fix so I can open the hood until my replacement part arrives Thursday(?)
