Kinja'd!!!

Here's a B5 S4 Avant. Need your Oppo-pinions after the jump.

I know I post a lot of the cool crap I get to do at work (or almost get to do...), but the reality of it is, my job sucks. I can honestly find about 1000 different things to complain about, from poor management to lazy co-workers, etc, etc.

The cold hard facts of it, though, come down to:

1. I am bored, DEATHLY bored. There is rarely something new for me to work with / on, and its the 'bad' tuners out there who keep making the same mistake and keep calling back with the same questions.

2: There is no room to grow. I can't go up anywhere. The next place up for me is currently held by a man 5 years older than me who just had his first child. He is not going anywhere any time soon.

3: Pay sucks. Yes I knowingly took a pay cut to come here for two reasons. One was the job I had was going south (I found out the owner was stealing from the company and fixing the books) and two was the opportunity presented (which turns out was a load of BS to get me to say yes).

4: Mileage. I drive almost 30 miles each way. Now I could deal with the commute, but low pay (see above) and long drives don't help one another out.

For what I am currently making, finding another job in that same pay range (a.k.a. just getting by) would be relatively easy, and I know I can find one closer to home.

This job was also not meant to be permanent for me while I am taking some courses for certifications and refreshers to get myself started on my own business (but that wont be feasible to start until at least end of 2014 or early 2015)

And finally, I have already scheduled and paid for a trip to Italy with my family in July.

All of this kind of has me feeling like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. So Oppo, what say you. Should I suck it up and just deal with the monotony, poor management, terrible co-workers, long commute, and low pay until I am ready to do my own thing? Or should I try to find something temporary that pays around the same (or possibly better), and is closer to home, knowing it will only last 8-12 months?

Only work a job you enjoy. If you don't want to go to work when you wake up, it's time for a new job.

I'm drooling over that B5 S4

B5 is best. I love Audi style now, but the understated B5 was the pinnacle so far. For me anyway.

And thats part of my conundrum. I know WHAT I want to do and I am working towards that, but this, right now, makes me very depressed ever single morning. What I want to do will come soon (relatively short term) but do I deal with this crap for now or find something else interim?

Might be worth it to stick it out until just before your trip. Maybe you can find something closer and try to get on there when you return. That way, you can leave for Italy having put the old job behind and come back to a fresh start.

Also, I want to see a wider shot of that S4. Looks like there's a B-52 in the background.

What do you do know and what do you want to do? I completely understand the hating the job thing and not being able to go anywhere. If it wasn't as flexible as it is there is no way I would still work where I do.

I bet a lot of people are dealing with many of those issues. My company is poorly run, 2/5 people here don't do shyt. Our webpage could be found next to a dinosaur fossil. I want to get paid more. There are few reasons I stay here: There aren't many other positions available, my boss is damn good at what he does, and i'm studying/testing for my architectural licence, and i go opposite traffic so it takes 25 minutes at a fun pace.

Dude, I'm not sure if I have advice or not, but that's kind of close to where I'm at. I relocated halfway across the country for a promotion - same job title, but in a bigger hospital for like 20% more pay. I'm bored constantly, the work just isn't here for me to do. I have nothing in common with my coworkers, and I moved here not knowing anyone. I hate to say I'm wishing my life away, but I can put in for promotions again after I've spent a year at this pay grade, and I spend every day counting down. I'm tempted to leave the government and go make more money in the real world without even getting my year in at this point. Sorry to jack the thread, but, just a case of saying I can relate. Sort of.

Realistically, if you can come up with something (before leaving your current employer) that looks like it can up your income and free time for awhile before venturing off on your own, I'd say to do it. I wouldn't burn a bridge, and I wouldn't quit without having an offer in front of you, but that's common sense.

When you love a job, you will never work a day in your life.

Finish what you've started, and follow your desires, I was in a similar situation, and I found that job.

That particular one has RS4 body panels and very large turbos.

Kind of a long story but I have worked sales / management my whole life until this job came along, now I work in the automotive industry as a technician for a major dyno manufacturer. The area I am going into is in the health care world (so completely nothing like anything I do, but sometimes you discover what you really want to do after realizing what you dont want to do...)

I've always found that to be terrible advice. I don't mind my job. I neither hate it nor love it. But holding out for the "job you love" is BS. Because a) you never know if you'll like a job until you do it. b) situations change in a hurry. c) How long will you love that job for when it's your 8-5?

Be realistic here for a second. For everyone to "love their job", that means there are people who will enjoy doing very mundane, almost meaningless work. But the reality of it is most jobs suck ass. Even in the field you love. That's why you get paid for it. My outlook has always been to be at where I'm at now - don't hate it. Just be like "Eh, it pays the bills, the days go by, and after work I have money to do what I actually love on my own schedule"

That's what worked for me, so I thought to share it with you. I enjoy what I do, and wouldn't rather do anything else. Sorry it didn't help you. I don't think my job is meaningless, I enjoy it, and didn't choose it for the pay,
-Best of luck

I feel your pain. I'm dying to leave my current gig. I'm literally miserable every freaking day here. The only reason I stay is because it is easier to get a job while working. I've been aggressively looking for a job since last Aug., and no dice yet. The pay is shit despite working on a trading floor (so stress is high), and there is no movement for me from here on out at this place. FWIW, I do work with some lovely people. But it's not enough to keep me.

At least you found what you want to do though. If you can keep the same pay and do something temporary that you like better I would go for that.
