My dad is visiting this weekend and he helped me build a treehouse for the kids. It is pretty damn amazing and it is way up there. It helps that he builds houses for a living. There are few details that will get finished tomorrow, like a railing and a ladder.

That's awesome. I wish I had carpentry skills. I have trouble driving a nail straight.

I worked for my dad while I was going to school. It was fun to build something with him for the kids.

And a window, when you get time. Nice job.
I had a friend who built one attached to 2 trees. That was a mistake. Wind and trees swaying, even a bit, does not work.

Awesome. Got my own project. No dad to help, though. However, the win is that the 18 year old will move in there. Score for the wife and I.

I was thinking about two trees, but it would have been huge. The problems you mention were a concern as well.
A window is in the works.

The tent roof is temporary (turning into semi permanent these days). There's a flat area above (you can see where the rafters on the side quit) so young'ins can go up and watch the stars.

Very cool. Where do you live? You certainly have different tree house trees than we do!

Hawaii. The stump under there which isn't really visible is an elephant ear pod, nitrogen fixing can get to be big ass tree. It all sits on one trunk with 4x4's going down to about thigh level.
The trunk is about 8' around judging by my ability to hug it, and that was only a 9 year old tree. Grows fast, here being below the tropic line.
