I mentioned one of my dad's old cars in reply to Flat6ForLife's comment here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
and realized I'd never shared this photo of my parents in front of the 356B Super 90 he bought used, in Germany, when he was young and single, and brought back to Texas.
I often wonder how much of a role that car played in winning my mom's hand. It's possible it also saved his life at least once: he was driving home late at night one time, nodded off, and came to heading straight toward a bridge abutment. He was able to quickly veer back onto the road and made it across the bridge. In a lesser car, who knows how bad the wreck might have been?
Once they got married and had my oldest brother, they traded it for an old 911, but it had been in a wreck, apparently, so it was gone quickly for a VW Squareback, and that gave way to a long line of beaters...
I've never forgiven my oldest brother. Truly "the one that got away" in our family...
Let's see them, OPPO. Best automotive-related photo of your folks.

not my parents, but my girlfriends aunt. Only one I could pull out at a moments notice. And it is awesome. She became Ms. Minnesota eventually

That's them on the right in 1978. Hanging out at the drag races, leaning against a buddy's Pontiac Firebird Formula.

Feels warning.
This was Dad's first car. Grandma knew where it was and some 23 years later, (1983) we visited it where it sat and each took a photo with it. This was the last time My Grandmother would see her son, as he died less than a year later.
I really need to get over to Mom's house and at least scan all the car photos. There are some really good ones of the two of them (Dad and the Plymouth) as well as the TR3 he had before he graduated.
Also, funny you should say this:
I often wonder how much of a role that car played in winning my mom's hand.
I’m pretty sure I’ve told this story before, so forgive me…
The year was 1964. The young, cocky E-Type driver went to go pick up his blind date. He was confident he would be charming and irresistible, even if he was half right, the car would make up for it, and she would be putty in his hands. He knocked on the door of her apartment, and they walked out to the parking lot where his chariot awaited.
On their way out to the car, they approached a ratty, old beat up station wagon parked up next to the entrance he had noticed on his way in. His "charm" took over, he walked to passenger door, stopped, and delivered the line,
“So here we are…. What do you think of my car????”
as he presented the dented eyesore to the woman.
He was expecting a reaction of disappointment, so he could reply with, “Just kidding, that’s my car over there!” She reacted, but only to look at him with a blank stare for a second and said.
“Umm… That’s my car.”
And that’s how my parents met.

My parents separated when I was four, and all the photo albums are back in New York, but here's one of my dad and a riding buddy. Dad in the bright yellow pants, naturally.

My Dad's 78 242dl was THE reason my parents got together.
The car was brand new, lime green, and European so it probably looked amazing in a North Carolina high school parking lot. My Mom saw the car in the parking lot, and started asking all her friends who drove "that cool green car". Later that week my parents had their first date in my Dad's Volvo. A few years later the car saved my Dad's life. He was racing my uncle, my mom's brother who drove a 240z, and took a corner a tad to fast. He wrapped the drivers side of the car around a tree, and walked away with out a scratch. Sadly I have never seen a picture of it so I'm guessing there aren't any.

I have a couple at hand.
First is my Mother with my Dad's white Golf Mk1 shortly after they got married (which I think he totaled) taking a break at the Capricorn Meridian landmark on the highway. We used to park there to eat sandwiches when visiting my grandparents when I was a kid, the new toll highway doesn't cross that section anymore.
And another with the replacement yellow Golf Mk1, with my mother, sister and baby-me a couple years after.
It was the first car I was in, and it's the main reason I always loved Golfs.

My dad and I in 1966 or so.....that's our 1960 Ford Falcon in the background. I guess this picture is more about my dad than the car...he passed away 3 1/2 years ago.
He always put his family first and as a result...drove a string of shitty second hand cars until later in life.
The Falcon? 170 cubic inch 6 with a three on the tree and lots of rust.
