"Though it might be hard to believe, Chrysler has ordered 93 original Dodge Vipers that were donated to schools and community colleges around the country for educational purposes be destroyed. A handful of these rare American icons have already been crushed, as evidenced in the videos below, and it looks like Chrysler is determined to see the rest end up the same way. .. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
That might be because they're horribly dangerous.

But still put them in a museum or sell them for track day use or something.

Way to go Chrysler.... Heroes to Zeros.

So, apparently they want them destroyed because 2 different people got into accidents with them. I don't blame them for wanting them destroyed I suppose, to protect their own asses. Why do people have to do dumb stuff and ruin things for everyone else?

...why? just sell them back to enhusiasts...
&sigh* chrysler being a friggen retard again.

Exactly. There are dozens of other ways to not use them on the streets.

This just seems ridiculously stupid. If Chrysler can make some money off them they should, it's not like they have a massive influx of customers lately. Also I want one!

They don't have VINs.

This degree of intelligence is the reason why Chrysler ended up bought by Fiat for starters. Fucking idiots.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 08:18 |

and why does that matter? i have a feeling lots of people are going to buy them becuase its the first set of vipers made.
'sides, (correct my if i'm wrong) dont older cars (pre 1970..or something) not have VINs as well? just a car number? you still see plenty of those running around

Sorry, I meant road certification.
About that, don't ask me. I have more or less the same opinion on this issue as you do.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 08:24 |

so they made 93 prototypes? huh
![]() 03/06/2014 at 08:25 |

Or pre-production cars.

they cant ALL be that....can they?

Have you got any idea of the amount of cars necessary to do testing, press conferences, etc.?
![]() 03/06/2014 at 08:28 |

None of these cars are street legal. The reason why FCA is doing this is apparently because idiots have actually taken the cars out on the road and gotten into accidents. And because FCA is still the legal owner of all 93 of these vehicles, they've gotten sued for damages.
I still don't think they need to destroy all 93 of them for that reason, but you can't just sell them to individuals - these cars aren't meant to be driven.

I can't watch those videos, it would send my into a spiral of depression.

honestly? no.
but i keep seeing drive trtain being tested in other cars, (ala ferrari or tesla)
plus final fit and finish...i would have thought 50 cars? 93 seems a little excessive...
![]() 03/06/2014 at 08:31 |

for once, a sports car not made to be driven...

Why, God? Why?

You can still sell them and people can use them for track days and such. You could also sell or donate them to museums. Jay Leno has actually offered to buy some of them before

JACCO will not give up

Years ago Mazda decided to destroy big number of new Mazdas because they have partially damaged when their transport ship got in trouble and cars spent long time in a listed ship. I didn't love those Mazdas (RX-8 is a bit nice and there 214 of those on board) but the decision to destroy all of them made me a bit angry. I decided newer to buy a new Mazda and I'll try to avoid older one's too.
93 Vipers is a lot more important thing than nearly 3000 thousand Mazdas. So if they crush them I will make another promise.

"They can't sell them without VINs" is not a valid argument. As any kit car builder. Or any car with a lost title, or in some cases salvage title.
Lacking essential features that make a car road worthy is something else. I do not know specifics, but I would wonder if these Vipers are any less safe than, say, a homebuilt kit Cobra.

I remember that. It was so sad to see cars in perfect condition being crushed especially Miatas and RX-8s.
