HoF is insanely expensive but nice from what I know.
I was more-so looking at a 0.75ct VS1 diamond and wanted to know what price range is a good one. Assuming I or better color and good or better cut.

Any diamond maker can accomplish an HOF style stone, you just need an "ideal cut" diamond it is all about the ratio. HOF was some excellent marketing to up-charge you for something other people can do.

Protip: if this diamond is for your SO, watch Blood Diamond for a stay in date night. Diamond problem solved.
Or buy vintage, repurpose a family heirloom, find a different gem she likes, anything but dealing with the diamond industry. Having been ring shopping, the entire process and mentality disgusted me so much that I never want one and I seriously feel awful for anyone trying to sift through the BS out there.

If we're talking about a heist I'd recommend gold. You can melt it down and cast it into something unrecognisable.
Also, we'll need codenames. Cool ones like 'limey bastard' and 'yankee peabrain' :)

$2-2750 is going to get you in for that from what I know, retail of course depending on the dealer. You just looking for loose? I think I+ is somewhere around 3K/carat these days. Thanks DeBeers!

Don't fall for the marketing gimmicks at the jewelry stores at malls. They go through so many middle men. If you get one custom made you can save about 40% on the diamond and about 50% on the setting.
If you need a name I can help you out.

very true thing, especially knowing someone from the marketing. Anyone can cut really anything. I investigated doing marketing for "Forevermark" but I cant handle being in that slimy industry

All I can tell you is if you want a high quality individual stone, your best bet is to buy a ring with said stone at Costco and sell the actual ring for scap. Costco buys diamonds in bulk, so they can sell them for much cheaper.

I'm looking at getting a stone/setting from a private party at what appears to be a good price.
Also, I did see Blood Diamond. Not bad.

That they are forever.
Jk. Not really.
Go custom, you will save a generous amount. Everything else is just a flat out gimmick. any dealer worth their weight can cut a stone however you want in any design you want.

Oh man I've got lots if tips! Go to bluenile.com. They have an awesome education section. I there's four C's you need to know: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight... For color, you want to stay in the top 5, D-H. The difference from g to h isn't noticeable but e to h is. Get yourself a fancy looking glass thing and practice looking for "inclusions". Hit the local mall and look at stones at every store. Prices get bumped at different levels; the difference between a .97ct and a 1ct are noticeable but are visually the same size. Play around with different combinations, a colorless diamond with lots of inclusions won't look as good as a stone with some color but no inclusions. If they let you, take it outside to see what it looks like in sunlight. And my last tip, if at all possible, buy while on vacation in the Caribbean. I bought an e46 M3 diamond for e36 M3 money. Good luck!

My tip is buy something reasonable. There is no need to go broke over this. Its more the idea behind the ring than the ring itself. As long as its not a CrackerJack Box special then she's gunna love it. If she doesn't then you have other problems at hand. Maybe plan a special way of proposing I more or less kidnapped my fiancee (now wife).

I hear you on the Caribbean tip. My dad got a ridiculous 3/4ct diamond stud for cheap. Thanks! I had actually visited Blue Nile and had a ring picked out, but I think I found something better for about half!

I think what Straightsix9904 was referring to when he said "custom made", is getting the stone and setting from a gem show or other private seller. I got my wife's ring from one (.84 carat, VS1, g color for $830), and the ring set appraised for 3X what I paid for it. Look up some gem shows, you'll save a ton and you'll get what you want. Make sure you take a loop with you, or someone who really knows their stuff.

Realize clarity and carat aren't the only things to look at. Generally what the others said is ball park for that diamond likely.

Just like you get a used car inspected before you buy it, Take the ring to an independent jeweler i.e not the mall. And get their take on it. I bought a ring on ebay 14 years ago and based on the description I got a great deal. Then it came in the mail. I took it directly to a jeweler told them what I paid and where it came from. They told me and showed me that the stone was basically worthless due to the cut and something about facets but it was very obvious that it wasn't anywhere near the quality it was described at. So I contact the seller to return it (satisfaction guaranteed he assured me) and he tells me I can keep it for 500 dollars (the value of the setting which was exactly what the nice lady at the store told me the setting was worth) I told him I would rather just return it and he obliged and returned my 1900 bucks. The store I took the ring too didn't charge me a penny for the advice and I bought a beautiful ring from them at a good price that my future ex-wife absolutely loved and then proceeded to make the biggest mistake of my life. Getting married. Good luck. Do have a 3rd party check the ring out and show you and describe to you the pro's and con's. You might need to pay for it but it's for your own good. Take the seller with you if he doesn't want to "loan" you the ring. If he refuses to go then he's most likely misrepresenting it.
