This time I have a legit reason to complain...
Don't get me wrong again; I like Mustangs, I love muscle cars and I especially love the sound of a revving V8 or any big-block motor. But as with going to the restroom, there's a time and place for everything, and it sure as hell isn't after midnight!
You see THAT Mustang above? Some kid on my campus owns this GT. I'm not sure if he bought it himself(doubt it) or if his parents bought it for him(most likely) but it's quite the looker! The silver looks brilliant in the lights of the parking lot; but that's the only good thing I'll say about it and it's driver...
I think it's okay to do night driving or cruises; you get your mind off things and no one is on the roads so you don't have to worry about AssHat drivers much. But it is NOT okay to drive past my dorm and downshift as you drive by EVERY FUCKING NIGHT OF THE WEEK! He does this at around midnight every weekday and it pisses me off!
You may have a big V8, but let me tell you something you little shit:
No one gives a shit about your fucking Mustang GT! Who the hell are you trying to impress this early in the morning?? We're all trying to sleep dammit and the fact that I've git midterms this week doesn't help either.
This is one of the primary reasons I tend to hate Mustang drivers and I'm now gonna list why, and it'll actually make sense!
1. Attainability-Let's be honest people, anyone and their mother can afford a mustang; be it a V6 or a V8, you can easily go out and drop between $3-10k on a used SN-95 or 197 Mustang and hoon about all you like. If you've got parents and they know you like cars, this is a possible "good" idea because you can get so much car for a low price!
2. Cost-Power Ratio-Essentially this means how much power you get for the cost of the car. Seeing as you can get so much car for a low price, you can easily find a 300-400hp Mustang for dirt cheap; almost close to the price of a used 2nd gen. Focus or SVT....
3. Sheer Stupidity-When you're out and about, hooning with your buddies and destroying the ricer menace, that's ll good and fun; but when someone tells you to do a burnout or drift, or someone pulls out a camera, the show-off(read as "do something stupid") part of our brain kicks in and something stupid like this will happen:
I just don't understand why some(not all) Mustang drivers feel the urge to show off a car that can hardly be called impressive anymore. We've all seen the Mustang more than once in our lives, it's not anything new, and yet, to me, when I see a Mustang and it's driver get ready to do something stupid that we all know will end with the driver wrapping it around a tree or lamp post, I wonder, what the hell compelled them to do that and what the hell made them think it was a good idea?
Now I'll say it this time, not all Mustang drivers are AssHats or stupid drivers; hell, a few of you on here have proven me wrong about the stereotype, but that doesn't change the fact(or if it does, very little) that this is the reality of the situation.
That is all, my second Mustang rant is over, have a good night Oppo. I've gotta keep studying....Oh wait, here comes that Mustang now..... DAMMIT!!

Someone got a new Armada on my campus in the past few days and they floor it down the road behind my dorm. I'm sure nothing ever good came from a icy road, a Texas-sized Nissan barreling down the road at full power.

My old roommate fits this stereotype perfectly. Right before we got to college he traded up from his '98 V6 to a bright yellow Vortech Supercharged '02 GT for a little over 10-grand. This car was driven hard and put up wet and came with a methanol injection system and all of the components of a former drag strip car that had been tuned back to stock and sold at a used car dealer with no info from it's previous owner. Over the past four years he has done this daily/nightly pointless drive thing with it detonating the whole way! He hasnt dropped the couple hundred bucks for a tuner to fix the air/fuel issues he's obviously having while running all of this shit with a stock tune. Ohh and hes also backed it into a light post, hit 2 deer, had someone stand on his roof, and smokes like a freight train in it. Needless to say its a heap of crap now and he still drives it around with his straight thru slp loudmouths and supercharger wine(when its not popping from detonation) like he's a total badass.
Ohh and he raced me (in my 4-banger 1993 Mustang) from a stoplight about a year after having it and when the light turned green I slowly took off as fast as my car could go, while I heard a loud BRAAAPPP And then silence from his lane. The idiot detonated and I won.

Yes it is. If you have a problem with his exhaust being too loud, well, tough shit. Unless it's illegally loud he's not doing anything wrong by "driving past my dorm and downshifting".
So basically, you can tell him in person to get off your lawn. But whining about how he has a nice car and complaining that you have to hear it every night isn't going to gain you sympathy. It sounds like you're just jealous.

Dude.... I know it's perfectly legal to do what he's doing and it is tough shit but surely you must understand how annoying it'd be if it woke you up every night of the week at the same time...
I'm not asking for sympathy either, and I've got a '14 Focus ST, I've got no reason to be jealous what soever.
Edit: I even said it in my post that I like Mustangs! Always have, always will. I know they're nice cars and have been driven in quite a few in the past few years; ranging from a bunch of SN-95s, a couple Fox Bodies, and two of the most recent generation, a base V6 and a GT500! I know they're pretty sweet cars and are fun as hell.

And man I don't really know, but last time I rode in it(about 4 months ago) it was bubbling and detonating worse than it ever had. Bogging down in gears that it shouldn't and I'm sure that the pistons are as round as softballs by now. It's not long for this world, that's for sure.

I'm sure as hell not jelly of someone else owning a Mustang, but I do wish I had one.
And FYI, I'd only be jealous if it were a '69 fastback, '69-78 Mach 1, or a '69-70 Boss 302, which I've never seen in person and would love to own an drive. These are just sexy cars!

Oh I agree it is annoying, but I also think that if you could you would rather have a Mustang GT over your (also very nice) Focus ST. One is a hot hatch, and one's a v8 rwd muscle car and you freely admit you like them. And if you were him, you'd probably do the same thing. And I'm not sure how downshifting a car at night in what I assume is a large city is showing off. Exactly how loud is the car, long tube headers and straight pipes?

If he's downshifting and revving it up it isn't a automatic, and if it's loud enough to wake people up it's definitely not just a cheap muffler job.

Oh there's no doubt in my mind that if I were given the chance to own a Mustang GT, I'd trade anything but an ST or a Porsche to get one. I also know I'd be downshifting too. Where I am isn't really a large city though. Well I mean it is but the area I'm in is somewhat suburban and smallish. I don't know the details on the car but I could hear it coming from what seems like half a mile away but I could hear the sound of that V8 pretty damn clearly before I could see it.

If you can hear it before you can see it it's probably in violation of noise limit laws. You can file a police complaint that you're being disturbed late every night by an overly loud Mustang, and they will probably check it out.

I mean from my room that is. I live in a room that's on the top floor(4th floor) of my dorm and it's halfway between two lights that are close to a maybe a mile apart. I say it takes about 5-6 seconds for it to come into view of my window after I hear it. It's been going on for the past 3 weeks but I get that Mustangs are loud. I'll just have to deal with it I reckon.

If you're on a street with a mile between lights he's probably speeding down the road and slowing down for the next light near your dorm. That explains the loud downshifts.
I also doubt how loud it is unless it has headers and little in the way of a muffler. Even most aftermarket ones aren't that loud. If you suspect something, call the police. Worse that can happen is his parents (who you assume bought him the car) are left with a fine.

But I actually don't know too much about the dream cruise 'stang, I used to be on the facebook group and just know every one was pissed about it. The silver one on the hand, did a hit and run on a CROWD of people at what use to be the sunday night meet. That is until cops came and shut it down every week afterwards.
Literally a second or two after that vine stops is when he hit a bunch of people.

I'd rather not start a conflict with someone I don't even know. I guess me and my ST will have to "attempt" to teach him a lesson about being quiet. :P
Though downshifting before a red light does seem to be the most probable cause as there's a third light right next to my dorm! Hadn't considered that...
Thanks for the advice and help, fellow Mustang fan!

Hate the driver, don't hate his ride. But if you want to shit in this guy's cornflakes here's what you do. Simply slashing his tires would be too easy and he obviously has some inadequacy issues so if he knows that somebody is after his car he might call daddy to solve his problems for him. You don't want complications and mindfucking somebody is more fun, anyway. The Mustang's gas cap lid isn't locked and the newer ones don't even have a gas cap. Sugar and bleach are fun but is an obvious sign of tampering. Water is natural and can sometimes form in a gas tank. It's not common but sometimes it can happen. You don't have to pour much, a quart should be plenty and it'll sink to the bottom. He'll start his car and the fuel line and filter will have enough gas to get out of the parking lot but not much further.
If you don't have much time to fiddle around with a jug of water, a funnel, and a hose, then find a nail or other sharp object that is tough enough to puncture a tire, but small so that it's not easily noticeable. If he always backs his car into a parking spot like in the picture, then wedge the nail or sharp object, pointy end towards the tire and the other end wedged into the ground at about a 45 degree angle. Place it on the front of the rear passenger side tire on the inside as it will be less visible there. If he parks his car nose first, then place it behind the front passenger tire. He'll drive off and if it doesn't immediately deflate the tire then it will do a lot of damage to it over the long term.
If you haven't confronted the guy about the nose he makes, don't start now. Don't make eye contact or even acknowledge that he exists. If he gets suspicious, then he'll have a whole apartment block of suspects to work through. If you decide to do more than one "prank," then wait weeks or even months between them. Also increase the time between pranks. If you waited a month between the first two, then wait two months to do the third. The trick is to wait until he lets his guard down. The moment he starts to feel comfortable and relaxed, that's when you strike. He'll either move to another apartment complex, which makes him somebody else's problem, or he'll (more likely) get pissed off and do something stupid enough to get himself arrested, which also makes him somebody else's problem.

It's less whether it's illegal, and more it being inconsiderate. I'm sure there's isolated places he could find to rev the nuts of that thing and not wake people up late at night.

The implication i got was that he was downshifting unnecessarily. Where does he say he lives between two lights? I can see a bit about the street-lights of the parking lot, but nothing about any lights that would require changing gears.
If the issue is just that this guy has a loud car and drives it off at midnight, that's not something I see an issue with.
If the issue is that he is purposely making noise when he could otherwise be quiet driving off, I think he's a bit of a dick.
CRider
> BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires

He said he lives in a dorm on a street with a mile between lights. I assume the Mustang driver would downshift when approaching a red light to engine brake, not necessarily street racing or wringing it out.
If you know you do a lot of driving in residential areas late at night owning a loud car is inconsiderate, but that's not the point.
BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires

03/05/2014 at 06:19 | 0 |
I thought the point was that he was being inconsiderate.
I don't agree with the rest of the diatribe about Mustang owners, but that can be chalked down to being pissed off at this particular one.
I didn't spot the bit about the lights. If the guy is just decelerating for a red then I don't see the problem with that. If it's intentional creation of noise when people are trying to sleep then that's not cool.
It does seem like it could be helped with a heavier set of curtains though.

It wasn't too long after that though that I left the woodward page, too many trolls and too much of my time (use that time on oppo now). Last I heard he was claiming someone else was driving, which sounds like a load of BS, and had a day in court ahead of him.
But now that I know someone on Oppo hangs out at normandy I'll make a point to swing through and get some coffee. It won't be this friday though, water pump just went out and thats when I'm planning on fixing it. Either way though I drive a Crossfire with this is the window:

The actual stop lights are out of the picture; the Mustang is pointing directly at the middle light where he is presumably downshifting and the others are down the road both ways....
Actually, you just reminded me something....That middle light turns into a yellow flashing light after midnight! If it's not red, then he's got no reason to downshift there and there aren't any other cars out so it's not like he's attempting to brake behind a car! :o

I use a pair of QC15s since I had them already to drown it all out, but I've also used a pair of $6 noise isolation earbuds and they work about as well.

Literally everything you said above could be said about Honda drivers, or rich-kid BMW drivers, or any group of driver for that matter.
Literally nothing you've complained about has anything to do with the car yet, as is typical of of the hater crowd, the car and culture around that car get blamed. Like, Bro-Trucks are just out to fuck with you man and the drivers, they're innocent victims.
As a Mustang owner, I get what you're saying but as a guy who attends meets and gets around the enthusiast communities, it's not a Mustang thing.

I'm gonna pull a couple quotes from my post just so we're clear on where I stand on the whole Mustang-hater dispute.
"Don't get me wrong again; I like Mustangs, I love muscle cars and I especially love the sound of a revving V8 or any big-block motor."
"I just don't understand why some(not all) Mustang drivers feel the urge to show off a car that can hardly be called impressive anymore."
"Now I'll say it this time, not all Mustang drivers are AssHats or stupid drivers; hell, a few of you on here have proven me wrong about the stereotype, but that doesn't change the fact(or if it does, very little) that this is the reality of the situation."
I'm not and never gonna say it's a Mustang thing as it's pretty clear that anyone can pull off an AssHat moment with any car; I clearly explained that I think it's more of a common thing with Mustangs and I explained why I think that's the way it is.
And I did complain about the car...
"it is NOT okay to drive past my dorm and downshift as you drive by"
The V8 is what produces the noise that goes to the exhaust. It's loud as hell and is a annoying when I'm trying to study or sleep.
It is true that car culture and the people who buy the cars can say a lot about a certain car, and I'm sure you're not an AssHat or do any AssHat things; but I am not a hater of Mustangs, If I could, I would have one right now if given the opportunity or the chance. I'll say it one more time, I know it's not a Mustang thing and I never said it was!
