Am I a psycho for considering this? Well, it's not actually me, my father is considering it. Right now, he's driving a 997.1 S Cabrio for the summer, and a Cayenne S that was my mothers until she took delivery of the AMG wagon last month. The cayenne is pretty standard looking, and is a phenomenal car other than the colors and 18" wheels. The 997 was a bit of a placeholder car when his E92 M3 met its fate this past summer, so he's considered getting either a 991 4S or 997.2 4S, but he's grown fond of having a bigger car in the winter so after thinking he's thought of keeping the 997.1 and getting another E63 AMG 4Matic wagon, albeit with better looking (read: manly) color choices. The E63 is just so much fun to drive.... mind bending speed and it sounds like the god of thunder rolling around the city. Gimme your thoughts oppo. Enjoy a pic of the current AMG for your consideration.

A second E63 wagon? No, no. You don't want that, trust me.
Now, a Pontiac Aztek... that's the car to get!

Actually a guy that lives on my street has two of the same cars, same year, same model, same colour, same rims, not sure about transmission.

Sorry, I was busy wondering what it would be like to have money flowing freely from my ass. He should definitely get another AMG wagon, and then his & hers license plates.

Do whatever your petrolhead heart desires. If I had the dough, I'd own multiples of the same car...if only just for colour differences or options, yadda yadda....
Source: I have 20 smart fortwos in Forza 4 and would probably have the same in real life if I could. Deal with it.

Hey, if he likes the car (who wouldn't?) and he wants that utility year round, then go for it.
I'd be happy with two of those in my garage. No worries about whose car to take the kids in (because they sure as hell aren't eating in my M5).

The strongest argument for more than one car, nay a dozen or so, is that you always have spares from which to create your ideal form, and cause it to LIVE, LIVE!

I refuse to admit that I have a problem, and the 6 inter-family Series Land Rovers and 5 70s-80s Benzes are on my side.

I'd say: hell yes.
I've driven the 2013 E-Class, and I can only imagine it in wagon form with a turbo V8.
Also, that a Cayman owner should switch to an AMG wagon tells me that there is hope for humanity. Your mother deserves to be applauded.

I've wondered this as well. In my case, it would be owning my Spit6 as well as a GT6. They're both the same chassis, and would both have Triumph I6s up front.
The way I'd get around it is by making them different in character. My Spit6 will be a bit of a torque monster. 2.5l long-stroke I6 revving to about 6000. A future GT6 would have a 2.0l short-stroke high-revving screamer :)
It's a bit different if you're not modifying the cars though. Hell, they're your dad's choices. Personally, I've got too many different cars I like to waste time getting multiples of one I've already got. But that's just me :)

I can't say whether or not he should get another E-wagon, but you totally nailed it about the non-manly colors of that complete mom-mobile. He should definitely sell it because I can tell that just having it around is detrimental to his masculinity. Something that prissy will have to go cheap, too. Look, I feel you pain and I'd like to help you out. I think I can swing fifteen grand for it to salvage your dad's manliness.

I'll just add that I want a second Miata with an alternative engine setup. I think its reasonable. Though, I've got no give/take balance in my life. I do what I want.

Most people who buy classic Z cars assume they need to be owned in packs, so I see nothing wrong with having duplicates. They can each be customized to their own flavor or at a minimum sacrifice themselves as organ donors for the best of the herd.

I want 2 FD3s RX7s
One showroom stock and pristine, the other with an LS swap plus mods.

I used to own 3 MKIII Supras at once. 1 was an 86.5 sport package, another was 7MGTE swapped '89 with all the goodies, and the last was a semi-stock 2JZ-GE swapped '92. All were 5 speed, 2 were targas and 2 had LSDs. It was a mix-match of the best of all worlds.

You can still order a CTS-V wagon for another few weeks!! Do it and then have a comparison! Plus the cts looks pretty damn manly

So let me make sure I actually understand this. Your family's current cars are:
Dad: 997.1 S Cabrio + Cayenne S (year?)
Mom: E63 AMG wagon (awd or rwd?)
Dad is considering one or both of the following:
1. Replacing 997.1 S Cabrio with 997.2 4S or 991 4S.
2. Keeping 997.1 S Cabrio, and replacing Cayenne S with another E63 AMG wagon.
Regarding #1 - if I had some other car to drive in the winter there's no reason to get an awd 911 instead of a rwd one.
Regarding #2 - If he really wants to replace the Cayenne with something else I would avoid another E63 just for sake of variety. Rather than any of the current crop of top-level performance SUVs that also weigh 5000+ lbs, I would hang out a little longer for the Macan Turbo.

Wait, you can still order a CTS-V Wagon for a short time! Buy one and then do a comparison test! It's cheaper, has a manual, and its def more manly for your dad

But, but, but, but... Burnouts :( it seems like he would be able to drive another of his cars in the winter tho, right? Plus winter tires would do the job pretty well. I understand tho, despite my disappointment

Unfortunately, it just doesn't work out. He has the cayenne, my mom has the AMG, my brother drives a 2005 E500 4matic wagon and I have the RR Sport away at school.

First of all you're lucky to have such a Jalop family!
Secondly what happened to the E92?
Third, why get 2 of the same car? Theres so many wonderful cars to experience. If I could have 20 cars, no 2 would be the same.

Well, I definitely understand where you're coming from, but it just seems practical to maybe get another wagon. The trunk in the wagon is even bigger than the trunk in the Cayenne... so sad.
The E92 met its fate in the form of a flooded street, unfortunately. I learned to drive stick on that car, and that was the first car I learned to pull sweet drifts in. I'll miss it dearly :(.

The American beauty is only a little more :) an S4 would be a good choice tho. My car is an Audi A3 3.2 (the hatch not the new one) and I love it. My dad an I are big audi fans, he almost got an R8 but decided on a Z06 instead and he also has a b5 s4 currently
