I remember when I attended the reveal of the S63 AMG this last year at Pebble Beach, I found the interior simply stunning. One of the things that really caught my eye was how they integrated the new infotainment system into the dash. I can remember thinking to myself "This thing sure looks awfully like an ipad.." And so it appears this was intentional.

Personally, I like the design scheme as well as the thought of CarPlay. I've driven far too many cars with useless infotainment systems in the past and i'm really hoping that Apple gets this thing right.

What are yall's thoughts? Yay, or nay?

yay.

At least it will save us all from the useless systems by the likes of Ford/Microsoft.

I'm afraid I'm turning into a curmudgeon because the thought of driving a car with a touchscreen is a complete turnoff to me. Consumer Reports isn't terribly popular around Jalopnik/Oppo, but I think they're right when they criticize systems like Cadillac's Cue and My Ford Touch, etc. Technology should be making things simpler, not more complicated. I haven't used those interfaces, but I've tried to use my iPhone while driving and it is not at all user friendly in those circumstances.

My hope is that the technology that allows three-dimension buttons to form on the surface of touchscreens will arrive soon. I've seen a few posts online showing it and it seems promising.

In the meantime, I'll maintain my MY 2004 car in as good a shape as I can!

yay, only if automakers do both Google projected mode and CarPlay, and dont stick to just one so I dont have to base my phone purchase around my car or vice versa
