And that's why I made SURE the tow chain was fastened to the rear tow hook on my Focus when I had it yanked out of deep snow a few weeks ago. I had something like this running through my head as the Dodge Ram was pulling my stuck ass out of the snow.

I've been a youth and I've towed many things & have been towed many times. Really your heading should say "Don't be completely stupid out there Oppo…".

My sister texted me three weeks ago and asked if her car (4WD Honda Pilot) was strong enough to pull her husbands small sedan.

It had just snowed the night before, and I assumed he was stuck somewhere.

The first thing I told her was that if he can't dig it out, that they were to call a tow truck.* It's a shame that she has a vehicle capable of possibly doing it, but I told her she could do more damage to both cars if she didn't know what she was doing..

*Only after I played this video in my head.

Its crazy to think how much I & I'm assuming other Opponauts take things like that for granted.

Over Christmas break my friend had a party at his house but it was over one of the nights we got a crazy storm. So in the morning I asked to get pulled out (with the strap that I gave him actually after selling my jeep). Could not of been more than a few minutes later I was on the road, heading home.

When you know what you're doing its easy as hell, when you don't it could leave both vehicles with damage.

I edited my post.

Yeah, I agree. It's just one of those things that is in the back of our heads. We enjoy carnage videos (like the one above) and we read our manuals. We understand weight, energy, and basic physics. We also know how much the parts are going to cost when we break them - which is why I don't fuck around.

"How expensive will this be?" is a question some people just don't ask themselves.

Every time I see that video I think to myself, "Damn, that's a good tow strap."

Unless you broke your car towing, how could anyone take offense to that?

Crap, the edit didn't stick: This is what I added.

My brother-in-law was coming home from work in heavy snow at 2am, and was leaning over looking out the passenger side of the windshield because of a iced up wiper. Instead of stopping and cleaning it, he kept driving. Thankfully there was no one else on the road on a weeknight.

Then, at the last minute before he turned on to their street a truck was coming towards him with it's lights off. He freaked out and thought he had drifted into the wrong side of the road and yanked the wheel to the right.

It turns out that this truck was parked on the right side of the street (facing the wrong way) and he thought it was coming towards him. He ended up in their front yard and couldn't get out.

The same truck that "Ran him off the road" was the same truck that pulled him out of the yard the next morning.

He has plenty of winter stories.

Like the time his wife was in the hospital for a month (last month of pregnancy) and he managed to get both of their cars stuck in the snow. First his, then he left it behind because it wouldn't get up their street. Then he got her keys and drove hers to work only to get stuck in the exact. Same. Place.

For someone who grew up in the snow belt, he's not fairing as well as I thought he would.

I love the guy, but these types of things (towing, mechanics, repairs, etc...) just aren't on his list of things that he's good at.
