Okay, I can understand that working on cars way older then you sometimes has to make someone very creative from time to time. But using wall plugs to mount C-pillar grilles in your 2002 Touring was maybe somewhat to MacGyver-ish.

I know: Never buy someone elses project. But the donor-car, which I've been happily driving the last 3 years in the summer, seems to have all kind of solutions I would definitely had solved other ways. De-mounting all the parts this weekend made this all too clear to me:

Also lots of fastening-parts were missing, it's a miracle I didn't lose parts the last couple of years, both sidewindows (not the ones in the doors) had the splitting pin missing (????), I was lucky my de-mounting mate did catch it when disengaging the other side. Sound-proofing of the transmission (normally a rubber ring) replaced by some piece of foam rubber. When using non-original floormats/soundproofing you can't always use all the bolts and nuts so it seems:

There should have been some way to get a bolt through that, right? Also look at the bolt top-left: it clearly didn't go where it should have gone originally.

And the list goes on. As is the list of parts I'll have to renew anyway. But:

It's getting really empty in there. Just the dash and engine/transmission/wiring harness were left in the car when dimming the lights in the garage yesterday. Now I just hope I'll have the patience to do it all properly myself when building it up again.

Sorry for the picture quality, it's the only quality I could come up with in the man-cave with my phone-camera.

on my buddies auto-x integra we went through and welded as many of the chassis seams as we could. if he'd have let me there wouldn't have been a single bolt left in that car.

I'm dumb. I made it all the way to the last picture before realizing that this isn't a 12-year-old car. Makes a lot more sense now.

Haha, no it isn't. And I'm no 11 years old either!

It's a '73 BMW 2002 touring (neu klasse '02). It used to look like this:

Not sure if that will make your future repairs a lot easier though I love the idea! I just can't wait for the 'new' body to be finished (it's going to the paintshop this week) and start to assemble all the goods properly.
