Someone who thought the Lumia with the 40 something MP was a good idea?

I think it's silly. But my Windows Phone camera (8xt) is worlds better then my Android (Galaxy S4)

Well, why not? Assuming it has optics to match the high density image sensor, you can zoom in by cropping to, say, 10 Mpixel without any loss of quality. Zoom without a bulky lens.

And you can do 4:1 pixel binning, which eliminates a lot of the image noise, so you get low-light capability with little noise. Or even 9:1 binning, that will still get you 5,5 mpixel.

Since the Lumia was already mentioned: Nokia White Paper here, http://press.nokia.com/wp-content/upl… Let them explain why such pixelcount can be usefull.

I don't want people to send me 18MB photos of their lunch.

I'm OK with stopping the megapixel arms race. Spend the time making them smarter and faster, not bigger.

I don't give a shit about resolution. My phone is 13mp, and that's almost twice what I need, but the shutter speed is still crap and everything is blurry. What good are all those fancy megapixels if I would need a tripod to use them?
