Driving through the Ford Dealer lot the other day, it hit me that there are many cars that could, and should exist that don't. I was looking at a Taurus SHO, the all wheel drive sedan that is faster than most sports cars out there. I don't know if you've ever been near one of these suckers, but they are huge. They are wide and long and really tall. Not only are they massive, but to my eye, the Taurus is not anywhere near as attractive as the smaller Fusion. A Fusion with the 365HP EcoBoost V6 would be a great car! Add a few more aggressive styling cues and that V6 has a spectacular new home to ruin some FRS drivers day.

While Ford is busy making that, they should also get started on a new Merkur considering they are using a 2.3 turbo again, although I am a bit !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on that one.

So what car do you feel should exist? In a world where you will soon be able to buy a Hybrid Ferrari and where the Nissan CrossCabriolet is a thing, anything is possible so dream big. Give me your suggestions in the comments below.

Cruze with Sonic like precise steering and factory 2.0 litre turbo'd motor. No wings. No extra visual anything (above what the RS already adds). Keep it simple. Wouldn't hurt to lose some weight but really, with the extra power, I wouldn't mind.

I dig the FuSHOn idea.

Cars that should exist, a Chevrolet SS with 3 pedals for $10k less.

"ruin some FRS drivers day." I imagine thats hard to do.

Kinja'd!!!

EDIT: But as for what should be made -

1. EcoDiesel wrangler

2. Chrysler Firepower (viper with a hemi and more subtle exterior)

3. Audi to actually produce a proper Quattro

4. Z4M

5. Dart SRT4 / Cruze SS

Err thats all I got right now.

I was shocked when I parked next to a new Taurus the other day. They are really tall, especially compared to my much lower Civic.. I love the way they look honestly, and with that big engime they are much quicker than expected. My town uses Taurus' and Explorers for police force. The cops I talk to love the Tarus since they love feeling so high up.

I agree about the tauruses being huge but then again all cars are getting bigger. I think Ford should remake the mustang based cugar under the lincoln brand. It can be their 911 beating luxury sports car

That would be awesome.

Since hybrids are starting to become cool, how about a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk EcoDiesel Hybrid with either a manual or automatic transmission and no price increase if you choose either one?

The engine would be the same 2.0 MultiJet they'll get in Europe, with a hybrid system that wouldn't just help increase fuel economy and add a little extra power, but also work in conjunction with the Active Drive Lock system for optimal on and off-road performance.

Just like this. Change nothing. Start with a base model (no power windows/locks, steel rims, 6 spd, I4) around 17k then have a fully loaded version with the v6 top out around 25k.

1) Chevy Sonic SS!
The 1.4 is known to be tunable, so why not just slap a bigger turbo on to it, give it a heavy duty diff and gearbox, some heavily bolstered seats, and some bigger brakes?
It should look similar to the RS!

Kinja'd!!!

2) Dodge Dart SRT-4
Turbo or N/A, it doesn't matter. We need a 230+ horsepower dart! and since alfa is making a giulietta quadrifoglio verde, that might be an incentive for a sophisticated little SRT car!

Kinja'd!!!

3) A manual optioned C-Class for the US market
No further explanation needed
4) MKVII Golf Syncro
A new, lifted AWD golf would be an amazing purchasing opportunity!
Give it the 1.4 Twincharged engine, and watch the profits roll in!
5) AWD Passat for USA
the 3.2 V6 is a powerful engine, but it's sending all the power up front! Give it some AWD-ness VW!

I owned a 1st and 2nd gen SHO and I feel ford lost the formula somewhere. It was affordable, lightweight, sporty. Now it's an auto-only, overweight, AWD, $40,000 luxury sedan. I get that it has to compete, but call it an SVT Taurus instead then. To me, SHO is lightweight (or lighter weight), manual trans, and tons-o-fun.

Who is drag racing FR-Ss? And who is cross shopping a $25,000 RWD 2-seater (I mean, it may as well be) coupe with an imaginary 4-door sports sedan that would probably cost around $35K - $40k?

Just used it as an example. Most FRS drivers are real car people that just want to have fun behind the wheel as they should be. But I have seen some punk kids driving around in what I can only guess is their dad's FRS thinking they're hot shit. Blowing one of those guys out of the water in an unassuming sedan would feel pretty good would it not?

I'm hoping for a new Mondeo ST220, with either the Mustang's 2.3 litre flat four, or an EcoBoost V6.

The old model's great value used. It's just a shame that it can only be had as a saloon. EDIT: Wait, I was wrong. Woo.

Yep - Fusion SHO - posted about that in the Ecoboost 2.7L V6 thread earlier. Wouldn't need the heavier 3.5 and the promised 320hp from the 2.7 should be plenty. BTW that also makes room to push the 3.5 to the 400hp neighborhood.

I too am constantly surprised at just how massive the new Taurus is. My grandparents just traded in their 2000 Taurus and wanted a new one, but my grandpa was scared to pilot a car of that size so he went with the new Fusion, which was a great choice in my opinion.

Everyone I talk to seems to love their Taurus. Whenever I'm at 711 getting a slurpee, there's usually a local cop hanging out there with his Taurus outside. I love to ask them how they like it, how it does in the snow, etc. Every officer I've spoken to speaks very highly of the car.

I'd really like to drive a SHO to see how quick it is.

I always thought the Fusion would look awesome with some nice sculpted fender flares. It has teeny ones that don't do it any justice. An SHO model with some nice curvy wheel arches would be great.

RWD 4-door sporty convertibles, made by anyone. Preferable Mazda or Ford, but anything is good. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is awesome, but I wish someone would make a sporty car with similar details.

A Sonic SS would be epic, but I'm flat out shocked there's no Dart SRT-4. It's already an attractive car, spruce up the suspension, eek some power out of the multiair, and give it an angry exhaust like the abarth...money

I've had rental Tauruses and they feel VERY detached from the road. The steering felt very artificial with absolutely no feel or feeling of connection to the road. You might as well be driving by wire. The car had a nice ride, but the interior is cramped for such a huge car, and visibility outwards is poor. Acceleration in the rental was adequate, and the brakes were brakes. I've never driven an SHO and I would hope it's better handling wise, but yeesh the lower end models aren't in the least bit sporty. It was just a very artificial feeling car. Really reminded me of driving a videogame car.

Easy. C7 "stripper model" with the new Gen V 5.3L. It could be tuned slightly from the version in the trucks, or not. 355hp, 383lb*ft, 6000rpm... it's as good or better in every single way than every Corvette engine minus the Z06 from just a decade ago, and should offer even better fuel economy.

Why won't it exist? Too many people would cry bloody murder for decontenting a Stingray, and the sales wouldn't be enough to appease the bean counters.

But I want one, hardcore. Think of it as a successor to the FRC of 99-00.

I definitely think Maserati should have made a V8 Vantage/911 competitor ages ago, and they definitely need one now if they want to hit their sales targets.

Alfa also need an affordable sportscar rather badly. To be honest, they just need anything they can sell. It's been a long time since they even had half a lineup. A new GTV6 would be good as well.

Oh, and Lancia needs something that's not shit, even if it's Chrysler based. The new 200 looks gorgeous, which fits with Lancia heritage. Give them that in both FWD and AWD versions and get Abarth to breathe over a turbocharged version. Call it the Integrale and I'll be exctatic.
