Is a an LSx or not? A 5.3 is not an LSx.

Do you really gotta be 'that guy'?

actually it is, the truck motors are all LS based. Just because its not a LS1 or LS2 doesn't mean it isn't a LSx. LSx refers to the entire LS family

The 5.3 is called an LS4. LSx means LS[Number], or any LS engine family. the LSX (capital X) also called the LSX 454R is a racing engine and is the most powerful version of the LS series.

So yes, no matter which way you cut it, it's an LSx.

I think I know what happened

When uploading pictures before even through a hotlink, kinja would upload the picture directly instead of just hotlinking it off another site. Well they seem to have done away with that, so it was pulling it as the forum attachment. Since you weren't logged in on that forum you couldn't see it.

I put them up on imgur and now all is well.

1) No. Not the accurate one. As GhostZ already pointed out in this thread, the 5.3 did in fact get an LS RPO code. But, we'll pretend this is not the case for the sake of the following point of discussion.

2) What is the difference between all of the LS motors and this one? The manufacturer is the same. The architecture is the same. All of the LS accessories found in the Corvette and the F-bodies will bolt to this motor with no modification. LS PCMs will run this motor just the same as they would any other LS. The LS aftermarket - heads, cams, headers, special intakes, pistons, rods, cranks, all of it - are just as available to this motor as they are to the LS. It benefits just as much from the research and development that went into the Gen III/IV platform as any LS does. 'Still not an LS' you say? Okay, then in what non-trival and significant way does this engine differ? If it does not - and it in fact does not - , what's the point in making the distinction?

Accuracy does not exist for it's own sake. You don't get any accuracy points if the targets you aim to hit are all moot. Being accurate for the sake of it is circular reasoning, and only serves to detract from the main point of discussion. Case in point; this post, yours, and everyone elses in this thread discussing an RPO code, instead of the car and it's mods.

"Hey, I did an LSx swap." Tells us all we need to know. Given the vast similarity between all Gen III and IV architecture engines, 'LSx' works just fine as a shorthand for Gen III and IV blocks. People aren't going to stop using it that way just because we can be pedantic dickheads to them about it. It would add nothing to the discussion if they did, and constantly pointing out this pointless point only serves to derail the discussion anyway.

3) We are done pretending. the 5.3 got an official RPO code, so those who want to obsess over that exclusively to the point of pedantic singularty don't even have a reason to moronically throw out the causal 'HERP DERP NAUGHT AN ELL EZZ ECCS, BRA!' nonsense. Now back to the car.

Kinja'd!!!1

All Gen III and Gen IV GM V8 engines are part of the LS family. LS is used to describe the engine architecture, which sometimes is not part of its RPO name. LS1, Ls2, LSA, L33, LQ4, LQ9, L99, ad infinium are part of the LS family.

Not all 5.3s are LS4, the LS4 is actually one of the more unique LS engines.

No one gets up in arms about the differences between these engines as much as they do making a fuss about calling something an LS or not. VVT, AFM, Fe vs Al, 58x vs 24x, these things all mean more about the engine than calling it an LS, but that doesn't seem to matter to some people.

The confusion, in my opinion, is really from when the LSX (note the capitol "X") came out. Now there's an actual LSX which most people aren't talking about, and LSx is used as a generic term.

Anyways... yes this car has an LS engine. And I wish there was more of it to see in the video!
