What you see here is a "Wiesel" the German army's smallest tank. A spokesperson said that it's not completely uncommon for them to be filled up at regular gas stations. Still quite a funny sight!

Isn't the Wiesel more of a armoured fighting vehicle/scouting vehicle than a tank?

I dunno? It has tracks, is armoured and has a tiny gun on top, to a layman like me this looks like a tiny tank, but I'm far from being an expert.

You're actually right about this part - it would be classified as a tankette if those hadn't become obsolete...

The Wiesel comes in many versions including Kawaii:

How so? I find it very descriptive since compared to many tanks (call the Merkava a Rhinoceros instead of a "chariot" if you took away the historical factors) it has many of the characteristics of a Weasel, which it was named for.

That's actually not a gun, it's a missile launcher. I think it's a TOW?

and now you have to explain the difference between a gun and a missile launcher to me. A missile launcher fires things like RPGs?

Yeah, this more or less carries a missile and contains all of the firing and targeting equipment.

I am not trying to be "that guy" that drags every German army discussion down because I've played too much Call of Duty/watched too much of the History Channel.

But ever heard of Elie Wiesel?

It's an interesting coincidence and probably nothing more.

A very lightly armored (only capable of withstanding small arms fire) fighting vehicle. A tank is defined by having a main battery in a rotating turret.
