Today I got my annual inspection for this year's OPCA autocross season, and I've just bought a set of Yokohama AD08s. Additionally, there may also be a set of adjustable coil-overs in my near future.
My wallet feels relatively light already and I haven't even begun to register for track days yet. Its going to be a good summer...

What coilovers are you planning on going with? I think I am just going to get some RCE yellow springs and some top hats and call it a day. If I had the cash I could get some KW V3s but dem things are expensive.

I'm torn between RCE tarmac 2s, Ohlins, and MCA reds. The RCEs are re valved track oriented KW V3s, so they do not come with top hats (buying top hats will bring them up to around the price of the Ohlins).
Currently I'm leaning toward the MCAs, but I'm having trouble finding a US distributor

Ohlins are a quality piece. They make dampers for Lamborghini and Pagani, and even the 1100hp Zenvo, so they probably know what they are doing. My problem with them is that they are 1 way adjustable while the KWs or RCE are 2 way. Never heard of MCAs until now though. The pics I have seen online make them look really nice though.

I had not heard of them either, but the last time I spoke with the guys at Nameless (asking about when my god damn header would be done) they had noting but good things to say about MCA. They are running a custom MCA set up on their rally car and both of the owners have a set on their personal cars. Also it ends up being the cheapest option
as for the Ohlins being 1 way adjustable, as long as you are not planning to change spring rates, you will never need compression adjustment (I believe the the Ohlins are rebound only). I'd much rather have compression damping decided in a factory for me, and adjust rebound for track or street as I see fit. All I know is that I've had Ohlins on my sport bikes and they are without peer.

A bit off topic but, do you know what exhaust that black FRS with the gold wheels had? It's really raspy and loud!

Why go coils? Struts and springs are good enough for 80% of the people that hit the track.

Yes he had a system by Apex and an unresonated Nameless performance front pipe. Its a little loud for me, but mine will also be getting a bit (and by a bit, I mean quite a bit) louder once I install a new exhaust manifold.
Hopefully though with two resonators, my system will be loud but without rasp.

Didn't know the Nameless guys used it on their rally car. Fortune Auto also makes some nice and cheap coilovers for the FRS, I was thinking about getting a set, but apparently they ride pretty rough.
Yeah, Ohlins are rebound only, while it is probably good for most people, it is nice to know that you have the ability to change the compression whenever. I however don't need that yet. Maybe in a few years though.

Suspension upgrades will come after I see how the stock suspension copes with drastically improved grip. I'm also considering Koni Yellow shocks with some RCE springs, but the cost, factoring in top hats, comes close to the MCA coilover option.
Plus I DO NOT want to lower the car as far as most aftermarket spring sets do (usually 26-40mm drop). Ideally i'm looking for about a 20mm or less drop so as to not upset the front suspension geometry.

From what I understand compression is something you only set once (street or track makes no difference), but rebound damping is what you want the ability to change for the track.

That is correct, I think if you change springs you should probably change compression to balance it all out.
Edit: You already said this, I was just blind apparently.

And I've heard good things about the Fortune auto coilovers, but I really do not trust the source (lots of guys in the "stance" crowd). I'm going to reserve judgement on them until I drive a car with an FA set up in anger on a track.

The FT86speedfactory guys use FA on their car and they love them, so it isn't just the stance crew!

hmm, didn't know that. might have to add the FA 510 series to my research list.

Don't forget the new Blisten HD shocks that came out. Those look quite interesting.
