I guess if its good you could comment that too.
Apparently this was aired during the Superbowl. 2003 was a different time man.

Yea that one is a little iffy, this ad though ….

I couldn't find a terrible ad (unless you call cheerful ads terrible) for my mom's car. Because I couldn't find any for my car.

This is pretty sexist:
"Mustang is everything you could ask for on a secretary's salary"
"Ask for a test drive during your next lunch hour"

Never seen this one before... makes me want to get into my car and floor it NOW
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:11 |

That wasn't that bad. Just sad that they wanted you to think they were a different kind of car company aka "Rethink", when really it was just a rebadge.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:17 |
|
It was just a rebadge, but at least it was a good one.

Lol, so thats where the secretary's car phrase came from.
Also wasn't everything back then sexist?

Good do it!! I actually like most of dodge's ads, esp. the "never neutral" ones.
Its a brash car, might as well be brash about its advertising!
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:24 |

Let's build a great GT car, advertise it as a burnout machine (when we bother to pay to air the commercials), and eventually slap tons of rebates on it to get it off the lot!
This one is neat, except again it totally misadvertises it as a strip car instead of a GT car:
The ads are fun to watch now, I guess, but still terrible at, you know, selling the car for what it was when it was new.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:28 |

The good was at least creative for when it came out … but that bad though, #FuckPhysics.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:31 |

Oooo I like that 2nd one. But yea that burnout ad, is that really all you think your car is good at pontiac?
Nice car BTW
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:33 |

I found one for my car. God help whoever wrote the ads in the 80s
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:34 |

The only redeeming part of the first was the manual transmission...

Uhh WTH. You have a nice car, but all Audi could manage to say in that add was 'its a car'.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:37 |

This is the only one they've released, and it's for all the models
Walkinshaw put this one out too.

Pontiac marketing team:
"How can we advertise that the car has 400 horsepower, a great looking and comfortable interior, and a fairly modern chassis?"
"Did you say 400hp? Let's show it doing a burnout like I did with my 87 T/A!"
"...?"
"Ok! Sounds good!"
Thanks, I like it. I can't wait for nice weather so I can drive on summer tires again with the windows down...
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:44 |

Lol awesome. But it came with "optional V6 power" …. never knew the base had 4cyl. (Im assuming)
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:45 |
|
Whoa, that actually played up the rebadging by Chevy. I didn't see that coming.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:47 |
|
And the V6 only makes 195hp. I can only imagine how much power the 4 made. Could it even move?
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:47 |

Yeah. Some of the elements come off as a 'fuck you' to Ford Australia which were never able to ship outside AU.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:56 |

Eh, its effective advertising. Off topic, I like Holdens & your car but don't like the SS.
Yea I don't understand it either.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 16:57 |
|
Simple, it's autotragic and defeats the fun of having a 6.2 litre V8 in it.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:02 |

I think its that, and when they sold the G8 here, they offered a range of engines. Which you know … every car has.
It still comes with a manual option over there right? Just seems like it would take so little work to offer it here.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:13 |
|
Sure does. I still find it weird that GM chose to do it that way, it came straight from head office, no variants, fully optioned out, that was it. If the car was sold in the same range as we get here, V6 and V8, with the wagon available as well, I could see it cannibalizing GM's other car sales.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:24 |
|
I don't think it would kill their other car sales though. There is a lot of room between the SS's base price of 43k the Impala's at 26k. I agree they are treating it weird, furthermore this is how I feel.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:27 |

It's just........why? Of all the things to say about a car that is "engineered for life" you focus on an alarm system? And by my measurements, "life" is about 15-20 years in VW engineering terms.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:29 |

Separate post because this wasn't just for the Mk3 jetta.....but this is so 90s it hurts. Maybe it wasn't so bad in 1995, but it is AWFUL today.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 17:33 |

The other issue is, it's an import car, so you've also got the 'it's not murrican!' hurdle you have to cross when you tack a Chevy badge to it. I'd like to see the production moved over to the US in 2017, but I don't think it'll happen.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 18:06 |
|
Damn the Germans aren't doing to well in this thread. Someone else's A4 ad was just as not interesting for the car.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 18:07 |

Sooooo 90's!! I like it VW takes themselves more seriously than this.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 18:12 |
|
Sadly true, on both counts. Us 'Muricans like our stuff Murican & the Australian auto market has a sad looking future. I too doubt they'll move production over here. Esp. since the Camaro is moving onto the ATS platform. Seems already planned out to get rid of that chassis.
I'm sorry.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 18:13 |

If it means I can pick up a Camaro/ATS-V in 2018, I'm not too worried.

Holy shit...I forgot that Celine Dion was the face of the company during that time LOL! Hum....try to find something bad about the Mazda 3 2010 or a 1997 Miata :P

I own a '97 4Runner, great truck. Love it to death, has 267k miles on it. The ad was pretty terrible:

Here's another go with just a link in case that gets kinja'd:

Ah the '90s hahaha. There are more ads for it here, including the full minute ad and ads for newer years: http://www.toyotareference.com/4runner/1996-2…

Quick search show this kinda bad NC commercial. Like your roof closing time is the most most important thing.

Yea, its a good car. Good performance car? No.

I was 12 at the time so I don't remember it. But fell in love with the SS playing Need for Speed. I wanted one so badly. Ended up buying the new turbo version in 2012.

I know. I Think they are overcompensating because it's owned by Italians and built in Canada.

It just looks so so plain in the commercial
