Current rules in every series award the most points to race winners. I say that's balderdash; anyone can get lucky and win a race. Just ask Jenson Button after the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. Instead, championship points should be awarded for laps led. If you lead a lap, you get a point. If you lead two laps, you get two points. If you lead all 400 laps of the Coca-Cola 600, you get 400 points. No bonus points for winning, and no restricting points to the top ten finishers. Every lap is a race for a point. The F1 season would be locked up by June, but I think the idea could make for good racing in a competitive series.

You forgot that if you're in second place on the final lap and you spin the guy in first to take the win, you get all of his points.

I would rather see all series adopt a Lemons-style scoring system, but that's just me.

Such asshattery would definitely be missed.

You make a good point, but using the word "balderdash" made it a fantastic point.
