disagree! All North American major brands are terrible! There are some delicious micro brews and bigger-than-a-micro-brew-but-not-a-major-brewer-type beers.

Excepe in Canada and Mexico all their beer sucks.

The fact that Canadians would put their national symbol on swill such as Molson is the perfect metaphor for what the world thinks of Canada.

All North American beer is terrible.

Correction: most "Mainstream" American beer is terrible. I live in Beervana , where unfortunately not many of us care about hockey, but we all own at least 2 growlers. And the beer aisles are vast and filled with the everything from the driest of local ciders to the darkest and finest of stouts .

I'm sorry, but screw the snobbery.

I can guzzle upscale with the best of them (current favorite: Bear Republic Racer 5) and I'm going midgrade with lunch today (Harpoon) but sometimes you just want something simple and refreshing and unpretentious.

On that front I'll take Labatt's on a consistent basis and eschew Bud products entirely, but if you don't mind being looked down upon by Real Beer Drinkers - and really, like that's such an ego blow - any number of good cheap mainstream beers are creations to be very happily celebrated and imbibed.

Several years ago, I went on vacation to Canada. (Ottawa, because hotels were cheaper than Toronto.) The first night I was there, I had dinner at the Elephant and Castle downtown. Since I was on vacation, I thought I'd splurge and have a beer with dinner.

Waitress: Would you like anything to drink with your meal?

Parkave231: Yes, I'd like a.....(thinks to self...in Canada...why not get a Canadian beer?)...do you have "Labaht?"

Waitress, looking at me like I'm speaking a foreign language: A what?

Parkave231: A...Labaht?

Waitress: Um...we don't have that...

Parkave231, half confused, half embarrassed: Okay...I'll, uh, just have some sort of draft beer.

The next day, I walk down the street and see, clear as day, an ad for Labatt Blue, with the bear and everything — which confused me even more.

Only later was I informed that a) apparently it's pronounced "Labaaaaatt"; and b) apparently Canadians don't really think that much of it.

Tl;dr: Dumb American embarrasses himself in Canada

Erm, I'd just like to point out that both beers pictured above are Canadian beers. All of the Coors Light sold in Canada is brewed in Canada. In fact, the vast majority of US beer brands sold in Canada are brewed in Canada.

All of the following brands sold in Canada are brewed in Canada: Budweiser, Budweiser Crown, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime (can), BL Platinum, Busch, Busch Ice, Coors Light, Keystone, Keystone Light, Old Milwaukee, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Rolling Rock.

AFAIK, the only well-known US brands sold in Canada that are actually imported from there are Bud Light Lime (bottle) Coors Banquet, Mickey's, Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Chill, and Samuel Adams. There's also microbrews, of course. Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Rogue, etc. are also exported to Canada.

My point is that most Canadians assume that American brands sold here are brewed in the states, and they therefore make false comparisons.
