Some of you may remember me posting about my friend that has a Journey R/T AWD, you guys helped me determine that the tires that come on that are awful. She just hit a pothole yesterday and a had a new tire put on today. They charged her TWOHUNDREDTWENTYONE DOLLARS!
I just went to tirerack $160:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I am so mad right now and it's not even my money. I'm gonna figure out where she bought it and IMPLORE her to call them and demand some money back, haha.

Was that 221 counting M&B with a performance balance?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:31 |

That's as much as I paid for per 33 inch duratracs...thats insane!
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:32 |

Why would you think that she would get money back? New's flash the internet is always loads cheaper then an actual shop.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:34 |

I imagine so, still seems INSANE.

I've blown out some tires on potholes and discotire always replaced the tire for $10...
I wonder if she should've brought her car to the dealer? It still has the tires on it from the factory, she bought the car brand new.

A lot of tire places I've dealt with have been very flexible on their pricing.

I suppose once its mounted and balanced she isn't saving a whole lot and she needed a tire right then and there. But I am still disgusted that it was that expensive for such a shitty tire.

Tire rack has it on special. It's $218 or so at sears, $175 at DTD.
Shipping is $15 on Tire rack's tire. Figure $15 for M&B, $5 for disposal. That's $195 already. Not TOO out of line. And maybe a $10 dismount fee since you brought your own tire from TR. Which would be $205.
Tires are expensive.

For $221/tire I better be getting some of these

Lol, the kicker is, that this is an AWFUL tire and sadly she was forced to buy another. Dodge doesn't warranty tire damage?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:49 |

Oooh, I'd like some too please.
The tires on my SHO are almost $1200. Eagle RS-A 2's, It's definitely getting something else once they are done. Partly so expensive because there is carbon fiber in the sidewall, haha.

Seems pretty reasonable especially if the changed/mounted/balanced it. 19" rims? Certainly not the most common rim size so maybe that's part of the extra $. And it's not like they stole the money, she agreed to pay it
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:50 |
|
I don't know anybody who does unless you pay extra for the road hazard plan.
OEM tires are typically shit.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:51 |

It's a tire that had to be made special for the Journey, the tire size did NOT exist, Dodge decided to invent a new size FACEPALM.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:52 |
|
Yeah, funny thing is Dodge invented a new tire size for this car, so there aren't a whole lot of other options either.
I had that hazard plan at one point, it was awesome, ended up getting 3 new tires for my Jetta, for only $10 each time. I lived in a very pothole-rich environment at the time. Ever since I got rid of the Jetta, I haven't popped a tire, haha.

Two hundred bucks is pretty cheap, compared to the cost of replacing a differential or other driveline components from having different sized tires on an AWD vehicle.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:54 |
|
Yeah, I was wondering about that, she's going to have one tire be much newer than the others... I thought maybe that was bad for an AWD car.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:55 |

Yea, that's common too. I helped a friend out who hit a pothole with a 265/35/20. First season on these winter tires. Not fun.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:57 |
|
ah that sucks. I'm dealing with 245/45/20's on my Taurus, can't wait to buy a new set! NOT.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 17:03 |

LOL. I guess Ford is NOTORIOUS for this. I know the Mustangs used to have a "ZR45" that was Mustang-only. The whole Firestone thing was a big buck passing because Ford spec'd the Wilderness AT.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 17:05 |
|
I suppose for a Mustang it's a little more understandable, since it is car that tends to burn through a lot of tires :D it wouldn't take too long for manufacturers to catch on to the size.
But that Explorer debacle? That was quite a debacle. Haha.

It's one of the downsides of owning an AWD vehicle. I should know, that's all I've owned for most of my time spent driving!
Hope your friend gets this all sorted out. Perhaps she can return the one tire, and opt for a full set of new tires at a better price. 19s are expensive, plain and simple.

WTF?! I'd like to meet the guy who thought THAT was a good idea...
I just sold a set of these that I had used last year as daily driver tires. I had bought them for autocross/DD work for my LGT, but then the LGT had to go and I found myself daily driving a set of $1000 tires on my wife's econobox Impreza that were 40mm wider than stock. They went to a good home to someone who will flog them properly

I do hear the RS-A 2's are a good tire, so there's that.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 18:02 |

Now THAT is the stupidest thing I've heard all day. Who the hell approved that!?!?

WORST TIRE EVER. Epitome of the no-season tire.

I have an even more depressing story. $400 for 2 rear run flat tires on an e90....three months later, $400 for 2 rear run flat tires on the same e90

You haven't met the KH16's Grand Touring Brother:
The KH25.... it wasn't until a few months ago did this tire drop in price to double digit territory. At one point, it was $140/tire for my Dart....and one of the worst tires I've owned.

At least you got 4 tires for that price. $760 for 2 rear tires on a CL55. That was the discounted price.
And look, a recommendation/comment notice that didn't go to what ever you're trying to avoid seeing again that I can't find LOL
![]() 02/21/2014 at 16:24 |
|
Well it was two tires for $400. So actually I spent $800 to get 4. And did I mention it was only 3 months apart!
Yeah, I think a mod fixed that post, but if you're really curious:

Damn curiosity got the best of me. I wish it hadn't. LOL My fault for looking after I was warned.
