Cause it's a silly fancy Rav4, boring as hell, not good gas mileage, isn't very roomy thanks to the sloping rear hatch, and sucks in snow. I've dug them out for people before, even AWD ones.

Assuming it's a third gen, the V6 is powerful and obviously and all around well built machine. The tech in the hybrid is real neat. The rear diff is electric, pretty neat stuff. Of couse unless it's and Audi e-tron R8 doing this nobody here will care lol. I find them roomy for their design with that sloping rear end. They moved the rear hatch motor from under the headliner to maximize the space without sacrificing the design. Not too much experience in the snow but at the beach, every sort of vehicle get stuck all the time. Of course, tires and driver skill is a significant part of it. As far as boring, that is completely up to the eye of the beholder. Any vehicle can be fun or boring. The vehicles in that class all have their thing. I don't believe one is better than the other.

RXs really suck. As you said, they're just tarted up Rav4s. My parents have an RX400H, its leather is stiff, suspension mediocre, and its hybrid AWD system (the rear wheels are driven by a motor) is the shittiest thing I've experienced (well not really, but still). The first time it kicked in on really slick freezing slush, it felt so unnatural I almost crashed. Well not really, but a worse driver probably would have at the clip I was going. Also, later in that trip, when I was going up a snowy hill and losing speed, it wouldn't even kick in. Gah. It's just disgusting when people (especially my parents) spend that much money on a shitty, badge-engineered product. They could have gotten a nicely appointed 5 series, a decked out C350 or a barebones E350 (or even an E250 bluetec if it had been out back then). I literally cannot put into words how disappointing that kind of blind consumerism is.

Especially when they tell you their first choice is a Q5...
I think they went with finding something as luxurious as the Q5 but for cheaper hence they got a 2013 RX350, not a 2014. It baffles me cause... if they wanted to, they could afford a car twice the price.

That's not as luxurious. If they think it is, they don't have taste in luxury. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at least don't overspend for pretend luxury.

Oh god no. My mother has one and I HATE it! Smooth ride but in my opinion it is slow and unstable when it does get to speed. The fake wood veneer lifted up after 2 months and that was when I first sat in the thing so who knows how long it was like that before. Whatever system lexus is using for the center console is absolute crap. Can't do anything while the car is in motion which makes no sense when you have a passenger. Absolute garbage, wasn't a huge fan of lexus before but that car put the last nail in the coffin for me. When I am home and need to run some errands I will take my family's Ford Expedition instead because I refuse to drive that POS unless there is no other option.

Age/mileage most likely. It ran fine and was in decent condition, but it had over 160k miles.

Yeah some of the finish on new Lexus vehicles is questionable. Our Sequoia and Prius both do the same thing with the nav system that disables you touching it once you go over a certain speed (I think 5mph). It doesn't bother me, actually, I like it cause it's designed to keep drivers focused on the road.

It was almost like Lexus just gave the car to the dealers without going through QA. Stopping distracted drivers is fine but when you have a person riding shotgun they should be able to do stuff with it. The fact that you have to pull of the side even with a passenger is just a real annoyance.

I was thinking the lockout could be removed the same way the airbags are activated. When there is a significant weight on the seat it activates them. It would be on the honor system that only the passenger is messing around with it. Granted someone could just put some weights and they can do everything and defeat the system but those people would be few and far between. Either way the system is still crap moving lockout or not because the navigation through the menus is a mess and the scroll system with songs and destinations makes me feel like I am back in the early 90's waiting for the next bunch of selections loading in.
