Some paper work to send a gun into Ruger, and that got me thinking, are any of my fellow OPPO's gun enthusiasts at all?
Somewhat. I actually just sold my SCAR 17S a little bit ago, so your picture prompted me to post lol. That's not a Ruger! I love me some guns. 'MURICA! On a car blog Asking if anyone likes guns as well Actually thinking there might be no one who likes guns I didn't think there wouldn't be! lol :O why sell itt? I know, but I wants it >.< It's sexier then my SR9, lol I hate what guns do to people, but I can't deny that I'm fascinated with how they work and such. And a year in the Norwegian army made sure I learned something about guns. The AG3 we had then was a proper powerful rifle.. Yeah, I currently own 4. This is my baby, my Navy issue Beretta M9: Yes, that one in the pic is mine. I also own a Mossberg 930 (basic waterfowl edition), a Marlin XT-22TR (tube magazine), and the fire breathing monster, my Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine. Here's a video my friend took of me shooting it. That muzzle flash. Modern guns are piss. My dream collection would end up being; Baker Rifle Browning Automatic Rifle Charleville 1763/66 Musket M1 Garand M1941 Johnson Rifle and Machine Gun Didn't like the ergo. It shot funny for me, especially trying to shoot center chest. I tried it red dot, iron sights, and even with the optic off my bolt gun and just couldn't find a configuration I liked. Here it was at the range (the heavy barrel 308 in the back ground is mine too). Very much so, even with the limited selection I have in AU. Oh, sure, like I want the NSA to know what I think of guns. Nice try! *raises hand* I would do disgusting things for a M1 Carbine I'd say.. I forget what my dad has, but he as a rifle that's over 100 years old..and the chances of it being mine someday are crazy high :D For Rugers I have a Redhawk in .44 and a mini-30. Or perhaps you hate what guns allow stupid people to do. I heavily considered a M9, but I'm getting my CCW license soon hopefully, and the M9 seems a pretty large frame 9, still want to shoot one though. Yes I currently own A few Mosin Nagants Russian SKS (1958 model, I think) Glock 21 S&W 357 Magnum with an 8-3/8" long barrel (obviously my favorite) They already do. Didn't you wonder why that guy in the trench coat was following you through the sporting good store, but never tried to expose himself to you? NSA. First hand-gun I ever fired was a S&W .357 ..defiantly want one. Yeah. something like that. I don't hate guns. But I don't think everyone and his/her mother should have them either :) Not really an enthusiast, but I know some stuff. I came to this conclusion a while ago: = Alright, I still want one :) I have Belgian citizenship, so I feel the need for a FN..even..if it's not one made in Belgium.. lol's Gun enthusiast here, I've shot several before but don't own one yet. I'm currently saving up to buy either a Glock 19 or a Walther PPQ M2 for concealed carry. Does the GTR hold any records though? I know the Cheytac does, hence my asking :P..though, it is heavy enough maybe.. lol If you do not care about conceal-ability, I'd certainly recommend one of the long barrel versions. With a rest (and on quite a good/lucky day) I can target shoot with that thing on the 100 yard rage of my local club. I still have my FN Five-Seven. I like their other guns, the SCAR just didn't pan out. I'll probably get an FNP at some point and have been toying around with the idea of picking up and FNAR... but they are such a pain to maintain. It is indeed a big heavy 9mm. You could easily pistol whip someone with it. Or bash their skull in. Either one. Truth be told, I should have gotten something else, but the thing is so beautiful I saw it in the store and just had to have it. It isn't as reliable or accurate as a Glock but it's still a lovely thing. I didn't get a Glock before I found my M9 because quite frankly, I think Glocks are extremely ugly. I respect that they are pretty much completely superior to my M9 functionality wise, but I just don't want one because they're so darn ugly. I'll probably end up with my dad's, not sure what length it is though (would check, but it's in another state) and conceal-ability is why I'm getting my Ruger fixed Also a good one, just..seems finding ammo for it or the P90 seems like it'd be difficult. You can literally smell history with wooden guns. If it's over 100 years, I'm going to assume either a Springfield 1903, a Mauser 98, an Enfield, a Nagant, or a Lebel. Those seem to be the common ones, especially the Nagant. Have you looked at something like the S&W Shield for CC? That's my person selection, and now other makers have offered similar weapons so there are options. I more just saw it from the extremely purpose-built point of view. The GTR isn't the highest powered in it's class, but it uses a lot of clever engineering and creative design to make it competitive with even the best supercars. The Cheytac doesn't fire the biggest round, but uses a lot of clever engineering and creative design to make it competitive with even the best .50 Cals. Actually, that might be a bit of a stretch, you get my point. Mossberg 500 owner right here. My least favorite part of being a gun enthusiast is that people think I'm crazy. (I live in New York) I have better luck getting ammo for it than I do for my 9mms right now, but it just depends. It's a nice shooting little gun too and is almost flat out to 100 yards. I don't like Glocks because none of them fit in my hand just right.. my ruger is a Glock clone really, just..it looks better, and is comfy in my hand. My dad got a M9 recently (I've yet to see it) just so he could shoot some +P ammo he accidentally bought, as his other 9 (usually used for CC) isn't rated for it I've got my SR9 for it atm :) the Ruger that started this post :P 4 pistols and 4 rifles. my most recent toy which i've been meaning to post I might have to check on ammo..and the P90 is another one I've always been fond of.. If I could have a real P90 and not a PS90 I would be all over it. I shot an AR57 conversion and it was ok, but just not the same. Not too much into the game yet, but I have 2 for now. A Savage .243 deer rifle and my baby is this beauty: Springfield Armory 1911 Operator. I've shot some 9mm before, but damn the .45 ACP is awesome. Next I plan on getting an M1A. Ah well there you go. My father has a Garand. It's amazing. His was used in the Korean war (or probably just stockpiled in case it needed to be used). Even when I was 14 I shot it while standing and it had very little kick due to the gas piston. Super accurate too. Because of that gun I am looking into getting a modern M1A. An RIA 1911, Taurus TCP, Walther P-22, Remington 597 and a NEF (Remmy 870 Clone). I had a Bushmaster AR15 but blew up in my face a year ago.
Nothing wrong with 1911's either :P I wanted a .45 as the only 9 I'd shot at that point was terrible (when I got my Ruger) but my Ruger made me change my mind :) also..ammo prices
I think the interest with "Things" particularly "Mechanical Things" (A category that is shrinking daily) causes an above average overlap of populations. Yep. I've got a Colt 1911 .45 Government, a H&K P2000SK .40, and a S&W .22 (Model 100 I think?) WTB a Franchi SPAS-12 and either a Springfield or a Bushmaster AR-15...and maybe some sort of 7.62 semi-auto long range rifle (M14/24 would be cool) The Scar picture I included is the 7.62 semi auto rifle I want :) .308 :P I have a penchant for old guns. Here's my 1917 Luger, Navy model. My dad is. He owns 50+ guns. I like to fire them. Especially his .44 Magnum. See, the SCAR is a sweet weapon platform that, IMO, should have been able to whup any test that the M-16 managed to pass, but somehow didn't. I'm under the impression that these rifles were built to be extremely modular, such that swapping from a 5.56 CQC variant to a 7.62 DMR variant should be doable in the field with minimal parts. Assuming that's the case, I'd just as soon get a SCAR with a basic mid-range 5.56 variant kit and a 7.62 DMR kit (and the quintessential accessories such as a foregrip/bipod, aimpoint/ACOG), and scratch the AR-15 and M14 off of my wants (as this rifle would basically fill both roles). That said, I'm under the impression that these rifles, even in civilian dress, are heinously expensive (but correct me if I'm wrong). FN is one of my favorite firearm manufacturers, but they are pricey as hell...occasionally making H&K look cheap by comparison! Defenitly are pricey, but my favorite..b/c I'm Belgian..well half...dual citizenship :) also, b/c they're amazing, lol Just having a mental image of the OP's gun could get me arrested here in Chicago. Years ago I bought and trained with a plain Mossberg pump shotgun (legal) and it keeps reminding me of our stupid laws. Things have changed now and in a few months I will buy matching S&W .357 Magnums for the wife and me. She has tried lots of hand guns and this Smith was the favorite due to simplicity, reliability, shooting comfort, and stopping power. I'm more of a 1911 .45 guy but can be perfectly happy with the .357's. Go to Ready Line in Newtown. Beretta 92fs I got for my birthday last year. Too bad I live close to Chicago and 9mm is stupidly expensive... if you can find it in the first place that is. I've also got an old .22 from my grandpa. There aren't any discernible markings as to what it is though. Nope, it's pretty much illegal to buy, sell, own and carry firearms in Brazil if you're not involved in law enforcement, so I only own 3 guns, a snub nose 38 a regular 38 and an old shotgun that belonged to my grandfather. I don't know the exact makes and models though because illegal. Savage 7mm Rem Mag. I have a couple shot guns but this is my baby. Love the magnum club! Not old enough to have a pistol yet (19) but one day I will buy one! Have a .22 here from my grandpa too, it's still my mums though, its German..forget what brand though. You're old enough to own one surely? Just not to buy one. (they give out hand guns to 18 year olds in the military, you just have to be 21 in order to purchase one as far as I understand) Edit yes that is what I meant. I cannot buy one yet. Si. Although I'm more handguns over rifles. That would be a nice collection! I have an M1 Garand and if you get a chance to pick one up I would highly recommend it.
Great gun to shoot, love mine!
Cool. My dad has an FN Five-seveN, and that pistol is absolutely fantastic. The ammo is pricey, because its FN's 5.7x28mm rounds, which as far as I know are only used in 2 guns (the Five-seveN and the P90), but it's a great gun all the same
I'm actually surprised there aren't more replies yet. Maybe there's some conspiracy types on here...
Yessir. Remington 870 express 12 ga. H&R Topper 20 ga. Mosin Nagant 91/30 - all of the dates say 1943 on it, so there's a good chance it shot at Nazis. J. Stevens Arms co. Favorite model 1916 .22Lr - one of the very first .22s from the company that invented the .22lr. Was one that commented, lol Yes. Just dove into the world of Mosin-Nagant recently. Got a few other firearms as well and a couple black rifles for 'merica. 1943 izhevsk ex-sniper
I had taurus revolver, taurus 454 5 inch barrel, glock 40 cal. and a s&w 357 ultra light snub nose had to sell them do to having a untrusted teen in the house with my new borns. i have concealed carried them all. will be getting some new ones soon now that he is gone. was thinking about a shot gun and a rifle of some sorts. something for your troubles.
Very much so. I just wish I had the collection to match my enthusiasm. I currently have a Glock 19, RIA 1911 Tactical FS, Mossberg 88 (12), and of course a Nugget (M91/30). My father has several old German guns my other grandfather sent home during WWII. A Mauser and 2 G43's I believe. Wee bit... why do you ask? That Aug explains your name, lol, is that a suppressor I see? My grandma's neighbors in Belguim what used to be my grandpa's Luger :O he was against the Germans in WW2, so not sure how he got ahold of their guns, as I dont think he was old enough to be put out in the battle field.. iuno ,lol It's a Springfield in 30-40 Krag Can't switch between 7.62 and 5.56 with the SCAR (or anything else that I know of). The cartridge sizes (cartridge length) are too different and require vastly different magazine lengths. Now that I think of it, Colt makes (or is considering) an AR type gun that can convert, but it does it by switching uppers and putting a magwell block in to make the magwell compatible with the much shorter 5.56 mags. Do want a SCAR in .308. I've built myself AR's in .223 (maybe 5.56, cheap upper, not marked on the barrel) and 6.8. And right now have a Springfield XD-S in a Crossbreed holster. Yes... and the XM607 has one extra selection... although, to me, it's Off and On. Somewhere in between is Wuss. Yup. I probably have around 30. Thinking about picking up a Mini-30, but they don't make them with a wood stock anymore, and I can't stand synthetic on long guns. I had a chance to get a pretty nice Aug, kind of regret not doing it..but my bank account probably thanks me If you look hard, you may be able to find a MSAR for around 1000-1200. I got one for my buddy a few months ago for around that price. An A1 usually sits between 2000 and 3000. My grandpa fought against the Germans as well. Whatever they looted off the enemy, they could keep I'm not sure, I know he had a German bayonet too, and a American WW2 machete (guessing he traded something for it), both are mine now My love for Firearms and Autos causes lots of contention with the wife lol. Do you like the FN 2000? I've read mixed emotions on it..all I'm certain of is that it is a comfy gun to have in your hands.. The only things I didn't like about it was the trigger and the bolt didn't lock to the rear. Honestly I don't have it anymore, I traded it for the SOCOM II pictured. If I were to buy another bull pup, it would be the Tavor, because there are trigger offerings and it has a ambi bolt release. Couple things here: A) I believe you about the SCAR specifically, because I don't actually know. I thought I had heard that somewhere (and it would be a badass feature), but I'm not surprised B) You can get what effectively are conversion kits for a number of weapons that change the weapon's caliber of ammunition. In fact, I believe that there are a good number of AR-15 uppers for all sorts of calibers (.22LR, 5.56, and 5.7 are all conversions I've seen). C) I disagree that the difference in size between a 7.62 and a 5.56 is "vast", but that depends on your definition of the word I suppose. D) The fact that the magazines are different "lengths" (which, I'm assuming, you are referring to the dimension of the mag from the stock to barrel) seems inconsequential. While I've never done it, nor have I heard of it done specifically, I would think you could take a 7.62 magazine form factor, and somehow tweak it to accept 5.56 rounds instead, in a way that the weapon could handle. That is disappointing news about the SCAR. FN does make a 5.56 SCAR and a 7.62 SCAR though, right? Isn't the SAW variant chambered in 7.62 (though, I don't think it accepts belt-fed ammo...)? B) The AR-15 platform supports a ton of different calibers these days. But they all have very similar OAL's to fit in the magwell. Here is a photo showing the 5.56, 6.8 SPC, .300 Blackout, and 7.62x40WT. These all work because the cartridge length is very similar, so they fit in the same magwell and the AR-15 bolt stroke will cycle them. Also common are the .22 conversions and 9mm kits, as those are shorter rounds yet. But I believe those don't utilize the gas cycling system and switch to a recoil operated bolt. C) Here is a picture of the .308 v .223. The .308 is significantly longer and requires a magazine that is significantly longer than that used by the .223. You can run a block in a .308 magwell and fit a .223 magazine, but then you end up with a gun that is unnecessarily bulky. D) See part C. You don't want a round in a magazine that is significantly longer than the round as the cartridges will move around under recoil and that will affect feeding and reliability in a negative manner. Plus the case tapers may be different which would lead to different magazine geometries. And if you are using double stack magazines that will further complicate things. FN does make the SCAR in 7.62 and 5.56 variants. If you are talking about the M249 SAW, that is 5.56 and is belt fed. A very interesting and informative writeup; Thank you. I was not referring to the m249. I was under the impression that the SCAR had a variant that was meant to be used as a mag-fed Squad Automatic Weapon. Let me google it... ... ... Nope, I was wrong. Never mind about all that. I've built three AR's, so am somewhat familiar with that platform and the different chamberings. A lot of that translates pretty well to other platforms like the SCAR. If you want a good idea of which cartridges can be pretty easily interchanged take a look at Lewis Machine & Tool. They make AR rifles with monolithic uppers that have interchangeable barrels. Based off of two different receiver sizes they have a ton of options, and if you get one it is easy to changed calibers by changing barrel, bolt and magazine. Some of the different rounds will probably only require the barrel change. I know the 7mm-08 and .308 are based off the same case, and I think the .338 Federal is too, though that might not be the case.

I just inherited a 38 special to go along with my M1 Garand, 10/22, and 870 12 gauge.
I'd like to get a mini-14 and a nice o/u for trap/skeet.
